First time at Sonoma Raceway (formerly known as Infineon or Sears Point). Nice track, very fun. Wish the weather could've been better, was expecting rain in the afternoon but it came by the third session.
Was feeling good during the third session after taking it easy on the first lap and picking it up a little on the second lap. It was starting to rain a little before the session started and got worse during. Was starting to pick up the pace more on third lap, but lost the front on turn 2. As I was about to hit the apex of turn 2, front tire slid out... I guess my ambition outweighed my talent.:sing
Giving Dito @ gotbluemilk a thumbs up as I was leaving the track after going down. Think everybody was off the track by then, I was cruising on my way in.
What damage can be seen on the right side.

i immediately get off the track the minute it gets wet. seems like every time i hear of there being rain mixed with a track day at least one person goes down. not worth the extra risk in my book. glad to hear you're alright man

Thanks guys. Riding in the rain sucks and definitely not worth the risk. The damage to the bike didn't really bother me too much cause I bought it with the intention of making it a dedicated track bike (sooner than later now).
The overall condition wasn't bad when we started the session and I assumed the Q2s could handle more (still think they can too). The more I think about it, it was actually the fourth lap but I still wonder what went wrong. My first time riding track in the rain and since I started to pick it up to how I normally ride when dry; the combination of the track condition and my skill, or lack there of, riding in the wet led to my mishap.

It's really smooth as it's only about 2 years old, just starting to get ripples in the brake zones from cars tearing it up. I don't think it was too fast, but I don't know what's fast as I'm a n00b but I was hitting about 130ish on the back straight, which is the longest around 1300ft.

I actually had my first trackday this past Friday at Chuckwalla. I was a little nervous since I was starting out in B group (intermediate), but I think I fared better starting there than in novice. I loved it and I came out unscathed! I loved it so much, I have a supermoto school this Saturday and out to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana for another trackday on Dec. 8

Thanks Saki. See you got bit by the bug. The pics definitely let you know what you are or aren't doing and your BP will improve with more track time.
Wanted to do Chuckwalla back when I got back from the sand box and was in San Diego, but never made it. That was in 2010 and was just freshly built too. Will be in Lemoore so I'll get my chance.

Pirelli superbike slicks at a track similar to Indy just not as fast.... It's the oval portion that eats tires :-)

we run our tires down till there is nothing left on track days.... Wasn't a pressure issue at all... Eric's tire did awesome, he just wore all the rubber off :-) I have ran multiple dunlops this far as well. You would be surprised how far you can run a tire before traction really falls off and it seems to be when the out rubber compound separate a from the inner carcass... :-) if you can go fast on shitty tagged out tires... Time just scrapes off when new ones go on race day...
