State Pilot Salary anyone?
Something was just going on in New Jersey, outside of my house, So I went to check and I think someone got hit while on a bicycle and the vehicle fled? So there was a chopper flying around with a spotlight, I was curious how much money a Pilot for a state makes, if anyone knows. I'd assume it would be more than a police officer/trooper, but who knows with this corrupt state lol.. I looked all over online and couldn't find anything.

I thought I heard somewhere that they get paid as any other officer of the same rank / time in service. Heck, I think most would pay to be able to fly choppers for the police.

Here's an example of State Trooper pay structure for Washington State, where being a pilot does include add'l pay:

In Atlanta I they make go by the regular rank pay scale, but I think they may get a "stipend" for being a pilot since they have to stay qualified with the FAA.

Most PD's that I know of don't offer any special pay for aviation. Most departments require you do two years on the street and then apply to aviation internally. I have heard of some departments sending officers to flight school, but all that I have seen require 1500 + hours. Your best bet if you want to fly and not spend a fortune is do like I did and join the military.

I have a few military buddies that piloted and due to serving in Iraq have a butt load of flight hours. They were able to walk right into pilot jobs for hospitals, PD's, News Channels, etc. They all made a decent chunk more than they did in the military since they had so many flight hours.
