I can easily see another vessel coming from 100 miles off.(via radar) By that time I can relocated to a more desirable location. Should they pursue I can navigate the boat in some pretty treacherous areas. Places you hit a ledge and sink if your not extremely intimate with the area. Maine has a bold coast (no sand, all rock) so areas of the sort are abundant. I can put the boat in places that only another local fisherman could possibly attempt.
Another strategic advantage to local waters: They are almost ALWAYS rough. Chances are it would be small arms fire if anyone got close enuff to shoot at us. It is extremely difficult shooting accurately when you are being tossed about like your in a dishwasher. Plus you need a pretty substantial boat to take the kind of seas you would experience. Some pirates in a speed boat wouldnt have a chance

Those people up in New York waiting in lines for rationed gas or living in FEMA camps or dumpster diving for food probably thought we were crazy too. Until now...

Kirk called the Obama 2nd term 3 years ago. I didn't want to believe it, but he was right.

Localized societal breakdowns due to weather or natural events I understand. Complete breakdown of the USA I don't.

Inflation will cause it. When the EBT cards won't buy smokes and cheetos this motha's gonna burn. Big cities, at least.
The government is ready, why else would they buy 1 billion rounds of ammo this year?
They have armed swat teams for damn near every acronym in the government. Even the Department of Education had a goon squad with assault rifles and military tactics. They busted into the wrong house not to long ago looking for someone who cheated on their loan app. We live in a police state.

what difference does it make what the reason is? Being prepared is a legitimate concern for either one; IMO much more rational than everybody who freaked out over Y2K when there was no reason to. Between Katrina, Sandy, massive tornadoes, etc.... MILLIONS of people were affected much worse than if they had done any kind of preparation.
There's going to be a LOT of layoffs in the next year, a lot of failed businesses, and along with that will come the personal stress and increased crimes, etc. I don't know where it is exactly, but there is a point we're getting closer to where people are gonna finally tap out and do what they think they have to do to either survive, or just simply "punish" the "wealthy" because they believe that's who is responsible for their predicament. And why wouldn't they believe that, the Pres of the United States has been telling them this for 4 years in a reckless pattern of class warfare. LA will riot over a bad jury verdict, you think Detroit, New Orleans, St. Louis, Chicago, Miami, etc.... won't be at risk for civil unrest? ...especially when all it takes is one misunderstood incident and it snowballs out of control?
The working middle class can only bear so much; they're not only the bulk of the workers in this country, but also the bulk of the taxpayers, yet get the bulk of the sheot talk from the gov't telling them to STFU and roll with it. It's a bad formula, and when they finally gt squeezed past their pain threshold, it's gonna get ugly between them and anybody they see as being responsible for it.........i.e. a free-for-all. It could very easily not happen at all, just as easily as it could happen; no point in not upping your own odds of being able to get through it as best you can if it happens.

The middle class gets NO breaks whatsoever. A child tax credit? yeah, right. Why don't they get it? When the middle class gets strangled by government pork on the low and high end of the spectrum, they lose their jobs and don't spend money, furthering the recession. It's a matter of time before the music stops and the gov can't pay it's bills.
The rep controlled house might not approve a stopgap spending measure that will allow a debt ceiling increase. I hope like hell they don't. Pay now or pay later,I'd rather get it over with. Crash the markets while there's a chance we can pull out some of our industry before the infrastructure is lost.

Whether its viral or bacterial, nature will correct the imbalance in the next 50 years.
