As for the environmentalist. The college of the Atlantic in Maine and the lovely federal agency NMFS has enuff to last a life time.
3 Yeats ago there was a POSSIBLE sighting of a rare whale in Maine waters. Next thing we knew all Maine fisherman had to concert all there rope to a sinking variety because the hippies felt our float rope MIGHT pose a danger to whales.
It cost an average of 100g for EACH fisherman to switch over. Many Fisherman just folded and gave up. Also as a result of the rope we each loose about 20g worth of traps every year. The rope lays on bottom and chaffed thru.
To date no whale has been seen. However a number of familys suffered greatly as a result of the "animal over man' mind set. The economic impact to main from lost tax revenues was and is astronomical. I forgot to mention they only gave us a year to do this.
That's just ONE OF MANY examples I can sight. I could tell you about the vernal pools but its the same idea as just described except the whales are salamanders. The fisherman are loggers and the impact was even worse

Good call - I'm in Texas right now and we are on that list. EVERYONE I talk to thinks this is the most foolish idea that could ever be put out there. It's just a few people who are pissed about the elections. LOL We even have a city (El Paso) who wants to break from Texas and become a part of New Mexico.

I imagine the vast majority of people signing these petitions know full well that their state will not seccede. It's just a way to tell Washington the people are fed up.

You know, I think a lot of the people signing them may actually believe there is a chance that it may happen, and are sitting at home and work talking about it, spouting off all kinds support info they've learned from the web somewhere, or legitimately learned through their own experiences, whatever....and are going to be traumatically disappointed when it doesn't happen. I'm picturing the same mentality as the Occupy people, who believe they are going to change corporations because they are demonstrating some kind of unified opposition and are willing to cry over it and give stupid interviews.
Granted, I don't think all of them are like this, but I seriously think a lot of them are.

FYI: Atlas Shrugged is a movie. Part 2 was just released recently. Never read the book, couldn't get into it. Don't care for the movies because they're snoozers. At least the first one, I've attempted to watch it three different times. All three I've fallen asleep less than an hour into it.

I will probably start reading it again next week after I finish everything from this weekend.
