Last weekend (11/10-11/12). Barber was lots of fun. I am still a slow guy, 1:59.8 was my best time, and I was reliably running 2:0* lap times. I had a close call with a high-side coming out of 5 into 6, but managed to hang on even through I got out of the seat and off the pegs.... . Barber is a great track and facility. I highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to go there .

Im sure you tighten up your sphincter on that one! LOL... Looks like an awesome track that would be tons of fun.... Glad you were able to come out of it clean.... The reason asked about when your track day was because I was curious to know how the bodywork from formula1composites performed? Ive been looking into them myself and im a little hesitant on pulling the trigger on them. They say you get what you pay for, but for its intended purposes, they seem to be able to get the job done. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated brotha. Thanks....

The main issue is that they (thankfully) have not been crash tested yet, so the true value is still unknown. For me and my budget it was these or OEM bodywork. So for me it was worth it to buy them. As for fit and finish, I have no complaints. They had small flaws so for a show bike you probably want to invest in something better, but for track plastics that will get beat up anyway, they fit nicely.

I was actually looking at the current buy one get one free Hotbodies deal which would make it $325 each before shipping. So far everyone says theyre not the best quality either. With the holidays coming up Im also on a bit of a budget and i have a track day coming up on Dec. 8-9.... So I figured I could give formula1composites a try and save myself an additional $60... thats if I pick them up from HB and Shipped I save my self $95. I msg formula1composites to try and arrange pick and save my self and addition $30 but he doesnt arrange local pick ups...

I don't know about the HB, but haven't heard good things. The Package I got from F1C came from San Diego, CA so you would seem to be close enough to make it a good idea to pick it up. Like I said before about F1C, they have no crash test lore on here...What does the seller have to say about crash tests?

Sure there are some small defects in the top coat that would not win a show with out more work with sanding and some bondo, but these are for the track . I painted them with DupliColor Paint Shop lacquer, black and then clear. For my first paint job ever, I would say that I met my goal of a 5-10 foot paint job nicely. I also installed stomp grip to help with BP at the track, hopefully it helps.

How much paint did you end up using?

I went to F1C Ebay page and about 99.9% of his customer feed back was all positive. The most recent buyer posted on 11/11/12 of his crash results and stated "Crashed my first set and no holes, good quality, cant beat price, will buy again"..... Well looks like my mind has been made up for me. Unless anyone here can convince me otherwise....

I used Dupli-Color Paint Shop and sprayed it with an HVLP gun from harbor freight. I bought a quart of black and a quart of clear. I Probably put way too much paint down, and used three quarters of a quart of each. I probably could have put on half... ... That and a rattle can of metal flake red, it cost 70 bucks for the paint. The only thing I would say is be careful about the Y pipe cooking the belly pan.

Bummer on the local pickup. Maybe he will give you a better deal on shipping because you are so close?

hey tad, give up the info on your pressure for your spray coats, how many coats, etc. for what you used for 3/4 of a quart of each. it'll give the more knowledgeable paint people a better idea of what you actually laid down.
edited to add: do you have a micron paint depth meter?

That would be good info if I had it....I didn't keep good enough track of that stuff. I adjusted the pressure and material settings till I got a nice clean consistent pattern on my test cardboard. I probably did about 5 coats each....probably too thick in the end...But maybe it is a little extra durable... ....
