Will 98-99 Mirrors fit the 04-06 R1?
I was wondering if the mirrors from the 98-99 R1 will fit on the 04-06 models. I have a 2004 R1 and I really like the look of the older mirrors. The ones from the 98-99 model look smaller and better to me. Does anyone know if these mirrors will work on my 04?
Or, does anyone know of a quality set of mirrors that have an E-number stamped on them. German law requires the mirrors to be E certified. Any help would be great.

I have 06 mirrors on my 01, so I guess the same would work in reverse. The stems are angled slightly higher on the older mirrors.

I was looking at the older ones and they look like they are at a different angle. I am wondering how it would look on my bike with the smaller ones. I don't want them sticking way out or up way too high either. I guess I just have to try them.

I just put an 01 mirror up against the 06 mirror on my 01 R1....
Still with me?...
The 01 stem is at least 15 - 20 degrees higher/ steeper than the 06.
The heads and the stems are exactly the same size and shape, apart from that. There is no difference in size, you might be wasting your time/money...

I see. So, basically, they are the same length? It always looked like the 98-99 ones were smaller and shorter. If they are the same length, I'm not going to waste the money on the older ones. Thanks for the info, it really helped! And thanks for taking the time to check the different sizes!

Yep, same length, same head size. No problem, glad to help.
If you want some sexy mirrors...check out Magical Racing mirrors on www.moto-works.jp I have their type 4 mirrors on my 06 and they're beautiful. They make five types of head and 3 lengths of stem.
You can see them on my 06 in here...

98~99 stems where a little shorter than the 00~01 years.
He wont be able to use the Magical racing ones as they wont go through the German TUV test, mind you it's not to hard to swap mirrors round once very two years for that
