brighter lights

i have an 06 r1, i have stock head lights and want to make them brighter. can i get bulbs with more "candle power" without haveing to go with hid's?

Why don't you want to go HID? These projectors were made for them.

You're pretty limited, as far as lumen range is concerned, with standard halogen bulbs. Some go with higher wattage bulbs than what is rated for the stock wires, but that can lead to issues. It also doesn't really increase light output to any great degree over the standard wattage.

HIDs are relatively cheap, and depending on the brand, stupidly cheap. The DDM range falls under stupidly cheap, and many have run them for years without a hitch. You can also choose to pay a little more for parts with a bit better construction, but still fall under what I would consider cheap, especially considering the amount of light they throw out. If you frequently ride at night, they should be a must.

The installation of them takes about 15-20 minutes, maybe more for a first-timer deciding on where to place the wiring and ballasts.

I have four HID's on my 05. 6K for lows and 5K on my highs. I did a bit more work and installed halos as well. You can try some Sylvania silver stars. But they really don't put out more lumens. It's only a trick of the eye.

I have stock highs and my low hid's went out. I slapped stock bulbs while my new hid's arrive but i wasnt happy or comfortable at all with the lighting before. can I run all 4 as low and high beam? I like the halos and am planning on ordering some this winter.

No you can not effectively run them all four as lows or all four as highs. The housing is not designed for it. You will be blinding to oncoming traffic. It will be like highs all the time. Also it will equal being pulled over for brighting people FTL...

DDMTUNING treated me nice. Takes a lil longer to receive the package but I have had no problems with mine. I ran 35W. If our want 55W you will need to upgrade the wiring...

im running 55w 6k lows from ddm tuning and some 3k yellow halogen high beams. i hardly use my highbeams since the hids because of the great light output.

But when ordering, what's the difference between single beam and bixenon? Just curious..

Single beam means the low beam and high beam are separate (if that's how your car/bike work) and bixenon is having a hi and lo in one bulb.

for the 04-08 r1s you need single beam h7 for low beams and if you want high beams too you will need to buy another pair of single beam h7.

on the new r1s 09+ you only need to buy a single beam h7 since the projector of the new r1s does both high and low thru a "cover"

Thanks for the info. Wondering if I should go 5k, 6k, etc. for lows/ highs. I know it affects the color but anyone have their opinions? Thanks

To expand on the above reply, color temp and luminosity play off of one another. Your color temp (kelvins) with dictate both the color of the light being thrown as well as how bright (lumens) the light bring thrown is.

The brightest you can get will be from the 4100-4300k range and have a yellowish/white color. Going up from there, the light goes from white (5000k), to blue (6000k-8000K), to purple (10000k-12000). On the flip side, as you go down the range (3000k and below), the light turn very yellow.

As you go higher in the kelvin range, you lose light output in place of color. The same for lower. Again, the 4000k range being optimal. This is where you decide on light output versus performance. The most popular range is probably the 5000k to 6000k range; a white light or white with a touch of blue in it.

I'm a performance whore and through the years have run 55w kits with 4000k to 5000k range bulbs. To call them a night sun would be an understatement.
