Is it bad I'm almost more excited to get pictures so I can have a painting done than I am to get back on the bike in the spring

I'm sure that'll change the second you get back on the bike! Just a heads up...technically speaking I would need permission from whoever ends up being the photographer to use it for the painting.

Here's todays work...only got done the glove and the first coat of the other arm (still needs second coat and shading). I would have more done but I spent the past hour reading 22 pages of shenanigans in another thread

Track photos, once purchased are our property to reprint, publish, etc however we want. IE we have the rights to them, but if you want something from the photographer, just let me know and I'll get that.

I'm no expert and I know laws vary between states and country and ultimately it comes down to the purchase agreement on what the photographer will permit.
From what I've researched and from what I've encountered first hand, if you purchase a print you only own the print and no rights to the photo. If you purchase a digital download then you are typically given more permission (again varies depending on purchasing agreement).
However, with that said, often those agreements give the rights to the purchaser and typically don't extend those rights to others (ie: me) or the right to transfer those rights to another.
Often they exclude the right to modify/change/build upon the photo which doing a painting can be considered. Also, they rarely ever give the right to use it commercially and since there is always the chance that I will sell the painting and or prints of it then it would technically be considered commercial.
Now....disregard everything above. I ride, I take photos and I paint and as I've developed over the years I've come to a lot of personal opinions on the matter. Most of those opinions run on both sides of the equation to the point that I think most restrictions placed on a photograph by a photographer are excessive but that also many people use a photo that a photographer put a lot of time/money/knowledge/skill into without permission can be quite disrespectful. With that said, I think its the polite and appropriate thing to ask for permission and give credit where credit is due.
I know personally I'd find it as a compliment to my photography to have someone ask to get the photo painted but I'd also find it a bit rude for them to not give me credit for originally taking the photo!
If you have the rights to the photo to the extent that I can use it 'commercially' then that works fine by me but I still think its common courtesy to ask!
Ok I'm going to shut up about that now as most probably just want to see an update!
Got a lot done! Red all over the place

Here's what I got done today...
-Did two more coats of red through the bike (I feel I'm not getting the color down right as it looks to me like it needs to be a bit more orange to it but this is as close as I can get it)
-Got the tail done
-Got the tank area done
I think I'll have this all done within the next week
...oh and also a picture with the 'real' camera of the neck area...this is about 1-1.5 square inch of the painting

I don't really know anything about brushes so I'll just attach a picture of the ones I've been using for this painting so far. I just go in and grab something thats not expensive and go with it
-Got done the logos in the red areas (TIM/Ducati/AMG)
-Got done the bottom black area with the Enel logo
It should all tie together much better once I get that white area painted
Gearheaded I think you get the award for #1 R1-forum fan! Appreciate the comments everyone!

Hey man, I just really appreciate great artwork (my woman paints). True talent boss. I know it definitely takes a lot of skill and patience to do tedious things, especially on that scale of a painting.
Great job man
