Lowering Link effects
I'm thinking of purchasing a lowering link for my 2010 Yamaha R1 because I can use the extra height space but I'm not sure if it will be worth it. What are the major issues with adding one? I go on a lot of twisty rides so I'm not sure if it will effect my suspension too much. Any help/feed back will be appreciated.

Well commonly in racing, people are adding more height on both ends to the crossplane to help with turning. I've got 4mm added to my rear, it's a definite improvement. I'll likely try adding to the front the way they did in WSBK and the way Graves currently does when I get cartidges with fork cap extensions. Generally speaking, lowering a bike, especially in the rear, produces a bike with unfavorable steering and handling characteristics. Just ride it side saddle at stop lights, dude. I'd suggest shimming the rear shock too if it's stock, it really helps the bike turn. But it'll make it even taller.

if you're lowering the bike a small amount ie 1/2 in or something like that then not much difference will be felt... isnt until you begin to lower beyond 2.0" when you feel a tremendous difference.
i lowered my chick's 2011 r1 and to me it rides like crap! but she likes how it rides so it doesnt matter as long as shes riding it.

forgot to mention that you should get the lowering link from soupy's performance... they have the best hardware and easiest way to unlimitedly change the height of the matorcycle! just thought i should add in case you were looking for a lowering link as well.
we have their lowering link and kickstand and it works awesome!
