A question for you with kids
My girlfriends daughter is 6, and she is always grabbing our phones to play Angry Birds, and Fruit Ninja etc... I was gonna get her a tablet for x-mas, and I was debating on getting her Google Nexus 7 or one of the cheap knock off pads for $79. Do ya guys have any input. Thanks

At this age, its just going to get broken anyway, so I would go with the low cost option.

The Nexus 7 is a great choice, I mean going the cheap route might not be a bad idea with her age, but the nexus is so cheap, it may be worth the extra hundred.
The nexus 7 in itself is an excellent tablet. I bought one when they first came out and had planned on selling it to my buddy and buying the Ipad mini. However, there is no way in hell ill be giving this up for that overpriced/hyped tablet. It actually convinced me to replace my ipad with the nexus 10 instead of the newest I pad.

my son is 6, daughter is 3 and neither have broken any of the electronics (tablets, ipads, etc) that they use.
I'd go with the better tablet

I purchased a nice tablet for my 7 yo grandson last year for Christmass that cost 169.00 with free shipping after doing a lot of research on specs and such. It had everything all the real expensive units had, full android apps with camera and nice heat sensor touch screen with very clear definition. He's taken very good care of it but it took much guidance when he first got it to make sure he didn't abuse or break it. Well worth the money, he love's the games and drawing apps and even sends an occasional email with a little help.

My 4 year old has been using an 1st gen ipad (w/otterbox) since he was 2 without issue. It has taken the odd tumble and the screen has a few scratches but it still serves its purpose and the battery life still quite good. In moderation I think it can be a great learning tool.

avoid those cheap tablets. they will be more of a headache then anything. you may luck out if it has a capacitive touch screen. but if it has a resistive touch then STAY THE FVCK AWAY

iPad + otterbox or the like. She'll be the coolest kid to her freinds.

My son is getting a pw50 this year too. Lightly used ones go fairly cheap on Craigslist. Just find one that was bought for a kid with an iPad or Xbox... Seeing as it didn't get used much.

Get an iPad. Well worth the jack. I put a Griffin military grade case on mine. Good for a 10 ft drop or something like that. It works as well as if there were nothing even on the screen. My 18 month old girl carries it around the house and it has seen its fair share of drops. Never worried me once.

Go with the cheap brand. She will end up breaking it soon anyway. Nothing against the little one, but I have a 7 year old myself. Trust me, I know
