The Oil Question.
Ok, I've seen this topic beat to death, I want to beat it some more. I've run across AMSOIL's site, looked up the stats and wonder why alot of people run different oil. I mean it has good viscosity and shear properties along with many other good inhibitors and such, but see alot of riders running Motul 300v or Bel Ray etc and wonder why. I know recommended oil is Yamalube, but just wanted to beat on the bush about this and kinda get through the B.S. when I go to purchase oil.
So my real question is, why (if at all) would you recommend the brand that your running?

Heard really good things about Royal Purple for cars so I've been running it both in my cars and bikes. No other reason than word of mouth.

NEO 0w5w is what I run in my '12 and ran it in the rsv4 as well, never had any issues
Its expensive, but worth the money, I haven't used AMSOIL, not sure who distributes in AU? But would need some serious convincing to change.
I put 6000kms on the rsv4 and when I dropped the oil it looked near new, I was persuaded by a guy who build hi performance japanese car engines to give it a go and havent looked back

Motor oil has come a long way in the past 20-30 years. Pretty much any oil will suffice, as long as the weight is in the proper range.
It depends on what color bottle you like. I use M1 4T 10w-40. The M1 4T has very high ratings, a lot of peeps use it, and it is easily available and priced reasonably. I have used Redline in the past with no problem.

Im at 12K miles. I changed at 6K miles to Mobile 1 4T and at 12K miles went to Rotella T6. It feels way smoother with the T6.
Royal Purple is made down the street from me. None of the shops around here will touch it since it leaves a residue (purple in color) on all parts..
Amsoil was good stuff but I dont feel its worth paying extra to deliver and such.. I used it in my car for a little bit to test it out.. No complaints..

Rotella T6 is the best bang for your buck. Been running it for about 8 years and it works great!

You can't beat my price on AMSOIL unles you get it from someone who stole it.
If you break it down in cost per mile, AMSOIL will usually come out less expensive and you will have peace of mind knowing that you are using The Best oil available, Bar None.

Started with yamalube. It was terrible. Switched to mobil 1 10w40 and it was better than yamalube but changing gear was still not as smooth as I expected considering how expensive the oil is. Finally switched to rotella t6 and I have never looked back. Its not because of the price but only because how smooth the motor runs with this oil. I change it every 3k miles with k&n oil filter. I'm at 14k right now and I dont think I'm ever going to change to a different oil. It works great in winter as I ride all year long with temperature dipping below freezing and in summer too. Great oil and of course for many people its the price perspective too.

And yet you still "slum" it out in countless oil threads.
