Chinese land jet on aircraft carrier
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2187767.html
In the story it says the plane is a Chinese built J-15 but I could swear that's a Russian built SU-27..........

This is a fact. The 33 has the same wing and canards. Just need to know if they copied the OML, or had help with the entire aircraft.

I'm inclined to agree with the statement in bold. After another search it's a spitting image of the SU-35 with very minute differences
J-15
SU-35

The SU-35 is a little bit different, and there's a lot of pics floating around that are supposedly of the SU-35, but they are SU-33 pics. The 35 doesn't have the canards on it. J-15 is pretty much a carbon copy of the SU-33. At one time the Russians tried selling SU-33's to China. 35 is a ground based variant; 33 is carrier based.

It is Chinese manufactured with Russian plans. I think they reverse engineered it after the russians got pissed at their copying of other stuff...
Russian military experts have downplayed any significant competition from the J-15 in the global arms market, with Col. Igor Korotchenko of the Defense Ministry stating in early June 2010, "The Chinese J-15 clone is unlikely to achieve the same performance characteristics of the Russian Su-33 carrier-based fighter, and I do not rule out the possibility that China could return to negotiations with Russia on the purchase of a substantial batch of Su-33s."[1] China has actively sought to purchase Su-33s from Russia on numerous occasions—an unsuccessful offer was made as late as March 2009[6]—but negotiations collapsed in 2006 after it was discovered that China had developed a modified version[7][8][9] of the Sukhoi Su-27SK designated the Shenyang J-11B,[10][11][12] in violation of intellectual property agreements.[1]

If it's the same quality as their harbor freight stuff I'm not worried.

And welcome to 1945, China. This isn't much of a big deal. When they have an actual carrier group sailing the high seas and landing rotations of 30 something aircraft at a time with multiple airwings, then I might worry. Might.

It is a good looking plane, they don't use a catapult system with their carrier. :

Going to limit the type of aircraft they can operate.

The Chinese land one aircraft on a carrier, once. They are 60 years behind the game.
