Does the 12-21-12 date take Leap Year into account?
If it doesn't, the world should have ended about 5 months ago due to the extra day added every four years...

The date is based on a separate calendar - the long count. The star pattern/cycle repeats every 5000 or so years. The start date is based off a made up day of creation.
The real question is since it's a calendar and based off a cycle, why does this cycle mean anything different than all the past times this same pattern has gone through since humans have been alive? The answer is it doesn't

Dr Karl, from local radio station tripleJ, believes the date should be December 7 2012 at 9:00am, local Sydney time, due to errors when changing from the old calender and the one we currently use.

I bet he's right about the date, I also think he's right when he says nothing is going to happen on either date!

Well, he has history on his side. I believe that's the same day Japan risked their entire existence by bombing Pearl Harbor.
