Just picked her up last week. 8k miles, Just an rls slipon. when the low fuel light came on she ran out with in 3 miles. I havent had a chance to try this again. I really dont wann get STRANDED again. Anyone have had this happen? Thanks in advance
If you are "getting it " pushing her hard and the light comes on this will happen, for some reason it has like a delayed response lol it happen to a good Freind of mine when I was w him this was after some high speed runs of 170+
i have pushed about 20miles
then one time it ran out at about 10 miles
so i go by miles now.
the best i get is 100 miles
so reset your trip meter and refuel early to avoid.
its sucks walking the beast.
AAA membership is in order to avoid embarrassment
Ive gone almost 30 miles on the light, I use the trip meter and as soon as 100miles comes around I'll start thinking about getting gas anyways.
Damn 30 miles lol!! You have more guts then I do. As soon as I see 100 miles on the trip I fill her up.

I've had the absolute worst luck when it comes to fueling my '09 R1.
I've been riding motorcycles since '98 and had never had the experience of running out of fuel once - or even coming close to running out.
Fast forward to the present and having owned this R1 less than 2 months - I've run out of fuel 3 times. The fuel light on this bike is completely unreliable.
Based on some of the things I've noted -
It seems like the fuel light is only reliable if you run the bike from start up until low fuel warning indication (you start the bike and ride it continually until the light comes on). Doing this I found that fuel indicator warning is fairly reliable.
It seems like the fuel light is unreliable if I make any stops and shut the bike off (normal commutes to work and rides around town). Then it seems like the sensor gets lost or looses it's position. This is when things get unreliable
The '06 CBR1000RR I owned prior - once the fuel warning light came on, it would stay on no matter how many times you turned the bike on or off before you filled it up.
This isn't the case with this R1 - if the fuel light comes on and I shut the bike down and then start the bike at a later time, the fuel light will only come on again at near or complete empty. Or even if the fuel light doesn't come on but I get closer to the point at which the fuel light should come on - the warning light will then come on at just about empty.
Like most who have experienced this with the '09 R1, I'm forced to rely on the 'fill at the 100 mile mark on the trip indicator'
Wouldn't have that problem I you got an 07 lol.. Just kiddin I also go by trip meter , but my fuel light has never let me down it will always come on at200km range. Even if I shut it of leave for a day and come back it would still be on
This happened to me ONCE. Light came on and 1 minute later it ran out of gas.......Pushed her 1/2 mile to gas station....Now I just reset trip odometer every fill up and since my max range is around 140 miles i will start looking to fill up around 110 miles.

I never had a problem with the '05 that I owned, nor have I had a problem with my buddies '08 that I ride somewhat regularly.. A few weeks ago I was on his and the light came on and I headed straight for the nearest gas station that wasn't out of the way.. Little did I know it was 22.6 miles away. I made it there..
I am not one of those guys that religiously resets the trip after getting gas ect. ect. I normally just v-line for the nearest gas station once the light comes on, and it hasn't failed me yet!
BTW, I'm not ussually a fan of yellow but your bike is an exception! It's gorgeous!
