BTW, this thread is closing in on 200 pages, as soon as we pass 200 I'll start a V3.0 thread and link the first two in the first post. The threads could go longer but some people start to see page loading delays.

55gr just for toying around is fine. Once you move into accuracy and distance use heavier grains between 62-77gr. You can be accurate with 55gr I think but Jason has more knowledge on that than i do. As for lube I have slip2000 EWL and Jason is testing frog lube. Both are non toxic and are formulated to resist collecting dirt and grime under use.

Kirk's info is solid. Not much more I can add. It's pretty much the difference between an S-10 and a 3500hd. The faster the twist, the heavier the bullet you can use. No twist is "better" than another, just made for a different weight bullet. The only other issue is the land and groove design. The 5R rifling profile is superior to standard rifling due to less jacket stress and higher speed for the same load. It's semantics at that point.

I'm currently testing Frog lube and G96 cleaner/lubricant. Both have good properties but for cleaning alone, the G96 is head and shoulders above anything I've ever used before.
My EDC weapons use Break Free CLP until I find and long term test something better. I've been using it for 10 years plus. Never had a lube failure with it. If your AR starts sounding gritty, just squirt some into the opened upper and lower, charge and fire. Repeat as needed. Never gums, never carbons up. EWL looks like a performer, might try it next.

Figured that! The stuff is so expensive, it's hard to shoot as much as I would like!

It's really not a cost saving measure. I shoot a lot and this allows me to do so at a reasonable cost. If I didn't reload it would cost me 2x what I pay per shot. I just got about 30k rounds of 223, 9mm, 45acp and 300blk brass for reloading. Scrap price is about 160 bucks per 5 gallon bucket for brass and I buy it for 10% of that due to my contacts.
I got rid of most of my non standard rounds. 10mm is the only odd ball I have left.

I need to pick up some 9mm if you get some extra you want to part with.

It's really not worth it for 9mm, It costs me 150 to make 1k rounds. By the time I ship and take into account my time, I'm up near 300. About the same you can buy it for, not to mention my liability. Custom rifle ammo I can save you money, but that's about the extent of it.

Where is a good place to buy some ammo. I would love to reload but don't have a place to put a bench.

Cheaper than dirt, Cabelas, Bass Pro, CDNN, MidawayUSA at times and a few others.

What should I be looking per round. I was at academy and it was 60 cents a round. I need to find a good bulk ammo place

Took the LDUB out and put 100rods down range. 55gr umc with 1 FTF on the first mag 2nd round. The irons were dead on so no adjustments there. The fliers were from dialing the aimpoint in.
