I prefer the knockoff taurus to the M9. I hate the high safety. I can tell you that you will be wide awake after the first shot. I've had some brutal hand cannons over the years. I only carried them and shot 20 rounds at least once a year to keep my confidence in them.

The M9 was issued, not bought. Didn't have much of a say in the matter. only wish I was still in so I could get one of the new Colt 1911's my guys are getting. Lucky bastids

I'll deal with the kick, gotta be proficient with it. Can't be any worse then the S&W 500 I shoot when I feel like spending $2.50 a round

It's different, not worse. The 500 is a big push, whereas the XDs is like taking an asp to your thumb pad. Take it from me, it gets old fast.

Just how he shoots i guess. It is beating him up though. Watch the regular speed shot again and check out his trigger finger.

I had trouble getting past the shudder he got when he started tugging on the trigger.

The guy in the video is totally intimidated by the pistol. When he first gets his stance and adjusts his finger to the trigger, you can tell he has a super death grip on it, his elbows are locked like Ft. Knox and he is literally trying to pull the gun downward in anticipation of the recoil.

hahaha I'll handle whatever it can throw at me.

War: The M9 is our standard issue sidearm (USMC), MARSOC has much sweeter choices, to include sig's.

And video-guy definitely seems terrified.

Meister: 'preciate you looking out. It'll be primarily carry, but I plan on shooting the sh*t out of it until I'm comfortable.

So is the 1911 becoming the standard issue? I thought I read it was MARSOC only.

Yeah, at least 100 to break it in. Don't plan to shoot worth a crap afterward. I went to a steel match one time and decided to prove how big a hard ass I am by busting steel with the pocket gun during warmup. I wasn't worth a crap the rest of the day.

I believe it'll start out in MARSOC first (as do all the good toys), then it'll trickle down to officer's and 03's, then to flier's and then to everyone else who rates a sidearm. I'm pretty sure the order Colt received was for ~40,000 1911's, so if they can deliver in a timely manner it shouldn't be more then a few years before the M9 is completely phased out.

I never really understood why they went to the M9. It's just not very good. High cap, but limited stopping power due to the ammo restrictions. 45 is better, but the 1911 is an operators weapon, not for general enlisted. Maybe a sig 220 or USP for them. I just see too many mistakes made with the 1911 over many other hoglegs. I'm not big on safeties either. Revolvers don't come with them so why the hell do auto's have the need? I'm just an old codger, so what the hell do I know..... My first auto was a Makarov!

I pretty much agree with you. High cap and Nato compliance are pretty much the biggest reasons we went with the M9. However, their stopping power is atrocious. I can't tell you how many stories my buddies have told me of unloading half a mag into a doped up hajjii, and have them still moving. Same goes for the 5.56. I'm much more in favor of using the 7.62, in something like a Sig 716. I'll gladly trade better stopping power for round capacity (hence why I'm looking at .45's, not 9mm ).

Most of all, the 1911 is part of our heritage, and I'm absolutely in favor of us trading out for them. Nevermind they look badass

I was glad to hear the Corps going back to the 11's (I read about it a month or so ago I think it was). When I was in, we were transitioning to the 92F and it was a PoS. Guys were seeing slides blowing off, safety catches damaged, etc. I hated the 92F with a passion.

While I miss my Kimber, I'd love to pick up one of the new Colts. However, far outside my price range right now. Part of me also wants to just pick up a Springfield GI45 as a decent base and tune it to my liking instead of spending the high dollar.
