98 tensioner help needed

Gday , currently replacing the tensioner on my 98 r1 , I have the tank off but I can't seem to be able to get to the tensioner bolt closest to the frame to remove , is there a way/trick to getting to this or does the carbs have to come off , really not keen on removing carbs so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks heaps.
