How to nurse my broken R1 back to health : (

Hi everyone, I am new to motorcycle forums and I wish I joined during better circumstances. A few weeks ago I had my first major accident and now I have a wrecked motorcycle and very little knowledge on how to repair it. I honestly do not know where to start; where to go for parts, how to check and see if my front forks are still good, what parts that I gatherd are still any good, is there a technical manual I can get, etc. etc. I have a 2011 R1 and the wreck ripped off my front headlight assembly, broke the mount bolt on the front of the gas tank (though the tank itself seems undamaged), my front tire is cock-eyed on the forks, clutch case cover (I think) is grinded down, rear tail light is busted out, one of the mount bolts to my exhaust is broken and of course most of the farings are pretty busted. I was able to reconnect the gauge cluster to the headlight assembly then to the two big connectors to the bike and she cranked right up, so I guess the engine was not damaged. Like I said, I am a virgin when it comes to reparing motorcycles so if anyone has been through this I could use all the help I can get. Thank you for your time in advance.

Welcome to the forum, I would post your location to see if anyone here is nearby that could possibly point you in the right direction to go with your bike. I you're lucky someone here can help out by checking it out and assesing the damage.

Pictures would also help assess the damage.

You need to create a checklist of sorts. Start knocking things off one at a time. Do a lot of searching here, if you don't find the answers ask. This could be a learning/bonding experience with your bike. Kurt's also got a good idea.

I dont know what the hell happened. My front tire lost traction for no f*in reason. I was leaning in a curve at mabey a 5 degree bank and WHAM!! I get slammed to the ground going about 90. Still dont know why. But I was wearing gear head-to-toe and am super lucky and did not get hurt. I did shite myself a little, though. The good news is, I needed to change that ugly fender and was putting it off till now.
