This was my Grandpa's boat. Fought in the pacific in several major battles, including one battle with a typhoon, which knocked 20' off the flight deck. My grandfather spoke German as a first language and had a thick accent so he wasn't sent to the European theater in case he was taken for a spy.

I actually remember seeing a photo of that damage from the typhoon! Crazy amount of force to break the bridge like that. Halsey nearly lost his command over that!
