Question About Pro-Bolt TI Gold Nuts

Hi peeps!
I'm working on my R1 rear end and I noticed that the OEM sprocket nuts have a piece of metal on the end of it. :
I'm buying the Pro-bolt TI flanged nut M8 x (1.25mm) gold soon to replace the OEM one ugly shizzet
Will this Pro-bolt M8 TI Flanged nut needs to have that metal piece. Or I'm good with this Probolt M8 nut

The OEM are locking nuts Ben

You can put some Loctite on the Pro Bolt ones you listed or you can get locking like the OEM but not in gold.

BTW you are showing M8, is that what you need for your wheels? Mine are M10.

Pretty sure you need 10mm nuts not 8mm, after torquing to 71 ft.lbs. I doubt they will go anywhere, use blue Loctite if any at all.

That should only be about 30 ft/lbs not 71, the manual is wrong and a few people have had the bolts strip or snap off trying to get to 71.
My BST's clearly stated on 29ft/lbs and that's the reason I wanted locking nuts.

Are ALL of the manuals wrong on this ? Pretty sure my '00, '06 and '12 have 71 ft.lbs. in the manuals. Thanks for letting me know ! Guess I've been lucky all these years then, never broke or stripped anything.

thanks for the post mate!... though my old man never follows the book on their torque numbers... he does it by feel... i'm not that good,... i'll be working on these come the new season as well..

thanks for the link above as well.. i'd rather go with locking ones myself...

Got it!
i had it messed up. The M8 1.25mm nuts are for the bolts on the rotors
The M10 1.25mm is for the sprocket lugs

shame on me

Hi Ron!
yeah Ian is right, i can always use loctite if i use the "Golden" nuts. I dont want to go the "natural" nut color. Cuz my sprocket is golden and wheels and chain and and and

LIKES:
