YES! my backpack reeks of exhaust.
and you should just ride to work in your dress clothes. james bond status. i'm sure you'd get a lot of attention from the ladies too

i commute on my bike. when i do, i hate carrying a back pack. instead of using my r1 i now use my cruiser. with the saddle bags on the cruiser, i dont need a bag anymore

thanks for the post, yeah i rarely like to commute on the bike, but i will probably be going back to school in spring time and i gotta say.. it would be a total blast to ride every day... but i'm kinda afraid for the baby in a school parking lot... the parking lot attendants could care less about our prescious toys as long as we fork over the monthly loot, so i dont think i'll be doing it often..

but to answer your question OP.. yeah i dont like to ride with much on my back, specially when in traffic, so a simple tank or tail bag does the trick most of the time... i keep my steel toes at a locker at work or school, so its no biggie...
