You can't carry that amount of ammo so you're not quickly portable. If you hunker down anyone can take you out unless your location can withstand the heat/flames of a major fire, which unless you're way underground you can't, or even a truck running through it, homemade bomb, etc. Not too mention acquiring ammo goes both ways LOL. You say "asshat looters", but you do realize you'r a fool if you don' take their ammo? Odds are if you need to fire your weapon you're not gonna need ammo as you're not breathing or you're gonna be taking someone elses.
In any chaos type situation the best method to survival is not to be seen and never to be a target and that means portability because as you see people you need to leave the AO. You have no clue where people will be so the best method is to move where people are not and if people come around, leave. Hunkering down with that many supplies makes you one hell of a target and a non portable one.
However, luck plays just as big of a part as preperation if things ever got that bad. Thinking on your feet would be 20x more valuable then those who just hoard stuff and prepare. I would take any high trained military guy, SERE, SEAL, etc who is use to evading and attacking in small groups and being very portable over some person who thinks he can read a book and hunker down and survive a chaos/doomsday situation.
Just my .02 after a few years instructing SERE.

Can't agree more. That's why I'm the logistics/support guy with 2 team members who are highly trained. I've taken a few classes and done some training, but nowhere near the abilities of the lead guys. The fallback location is perfect. 6 mile long road lined with pastures and rolling hills, ending in a steep canyon road to the small community of homes that are occupied mostly by Cincinnati retired Police officers and a couple nurses. On the water in a large stand of woods. 23 homes total with a prime defensive location. closest large town is 40 minute drive by county road. Hydroelectric power supplies the area and family farms surround the property.

I think the odds of it coming to that point are low, but it's a possibility depending on how fast/hard things happen. Hopefully it never happens, but who knows as our debt could absolutely crush our economy if something isn't done fast (if it's even possible to fix at this point).

I decided today that I'm out on the frenzy that is in full swing. I really want a semi-auto .308 or PM version, or a .308 long barrel bolt action (for sniping courses) but .308 just costs too much and I have no where within an hour I could actually use it. I think 200 yards is the longest we have local so I'm going to stick with 5.56. I've been buying extra high cap magz over the last few years so no need to join the rush. Just going to wait for the January LE over-runs to come in and save on ammo as usual. I really want to burn some $ (tax return) coming but I need to stop myself.

Well if it got that bad. All our "toys" would mean dick, and it'd totally open us up for attack by another country. It's not like it was 160 years ago when it took weeks to cross the ocean, and days to get messages.

I'm getting a 5.56, but plan on getting a bolt action Remington 700. Debating whether to go with .223, 22-250, or .308.

No point worrying about the economy, there's still a hundred million law abiding citizens that need to be demonized/criminalized to give the country a "feel good" boost.

It took 20 kids deaths to get the heat off the government for the fiscal cliff. They will ride this wave as long as they can and put a stopgap measure in so they can put it off further. At least the reps gave in on taxes, now what?

20's are now $13, Gen2 30's are $13 and the rest are $30

The events of Friday reminded me of this movie from the early 90's. "Toy Soldiers"... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103112/ I know it's just a movie, but it kind of shows how easily it can happen. The reality of it is even more apparent now, and regardless if the US bans or stops producing guns. That doesn't mean other countries will, and not come here with them. I didn't want to post this any where else, and start up a bunch of sh!t.
