Getting New Bike
Just for starters I AM aware that this IS an R1 forum. However, the gsxr forum and almost ALL other forums that I am a member of are all full of people that just like to talk trash and bash on others posts. I think this one is the most informative out of ALL of them and has the most mature crowd out of them all as well that is why I am posting my question here and not in another site. My bike history (If you dont know or remember) I owned a 2007 zzr600 first put about 15k miles on it, purchased a 2005 636 put about 10k miles on it, got a 2007 zx10 put about 8k miles on it (laid it down, fixed it and sold it) bought a 2003 R1 put about 5k on it then sold it and bought the 1200 sporty and put 129 miles on it and sold it a few weeks ago.....
Regretably I sold my "REAL" bike during the riding season last year to see if the grass was greener on the HARLEY side of the fence . However, I quickly found out that it truly was the exact opposite for me anyway. I bought a 1200 sportster just to try it out. I HATED it to say the least I owned it for a total of 4 months and put a whoping 129 miles on it!! Luckily I was able to sell it and get my money back out of it a couple weekends ago!! I am in the market for another REAL bike now. I have been looking around and I found a few bikes and that is where you guys come in, I need HELP deciding! I cannot make my mind up AT ALL! I have not even been to see any of them yet because I cannot decide which one I want to go look at!! Here is the list that I have narrowed it down to. I know all the bs about the one that fits you best and the one that you like the best after you go out and ride them all and that all of the big 4 are almost tit for tat blah blah blah I know all that good stuff I am just wanting some REAL opinions from some REAL people! 2006 GSXR 1000 in great shape for a good price, I found a 2004 R1 that needs repairing which is obviously for a better price, and a 2007 CBR 1000 that is the most expensive. All are under 10k miles and all are in my acceptable price range $5-6k. I do about 2 track days per year and ride twisties on street I also use for a daily when weather permits and do an ocasional wheelie or two but no indos or strictly stunt riding days. ANY advice will be benificial to me! Thanks in advance!

5-6k...it's really too bad you weren't here a week ago...there was a "totalled" '08 for 4k that was cosmetic damage for 4k...would have been perfect.
Good luck deciding....but I'd say the GSXR and CBR should both be better considering just a few years in technology. If you could get into an '07/'08 R1 I'd go with that, but it might be hard staying in your price.

Right now, the CBR sounds the best of the bunch, but only because we don't know how much repair the R1 needs. It all depends what you want, for myself, I'd be looking hard at the R1 and trying to calculate how much it would be to get it back up to par. Depending how much the CBR is, you can't really go wrong with the Honduh. And it's a year newer than the GSXR and isn't too much more (still 5-6k)? Could you be more descriptive? Links?

+1 for the 'Blade. Out of those three, depending on the amount of time/money to get the R1 road worthy.

04 R1 is a beautiful bike but I'm a bit partial to the 04-06 body style. Provided it doesn't require any major repair work and you understand the high RPM power band, which I happen to love, I'd go for the R1.

I thought I mentioned that it just needed plastics. Thats all it needs aside from cheap stuff like a bar end, shifter, and a windscreen has 2 new tires, new brake job, new FULL exhaust I have figured up that 1200$ will get it back in like new shape! Thanks for all the advice! Keep it coming! CBR is 6250$ but he has agreed over the phone to atleast take 6. I cannot provide links (dont really know how) plus 2 of the bikes are not on the internet that i am aware of anyway.

Look for '08 CBR1000's also. Honda sold them at $7200-7500 brand new in the summer of 2009. You might come across a good deal on one. It's a fantastic bike.

pfft, shows how much you know OP... we pride ourselves in being totally immature!! bahahahah....
as far as bike choices.. i'm not a fan of gixxas either.. so i would look toward a cbr1k if you can find one that doesnt leak oil... not an easy task from
what i hear... if you dont find exactly what you're looking for, give it a bit... i find most real bike deals come out in JAnuary when everybody else
starts to look around seriously for a replacement...

Out of the options u posted, get the 07 cbr 1000rr. U won't regret it
The 05-06 gsxr 1000 had a frame recall where they had to glue another bar to reinforce the integrity and you don't wanna deal with that
The 04 r1. You don't want anything that requires repair
As for the Honda, considering all things are good such as mileage and never been dropped, get it! Oil burning happened in 08 and later only.

Not true.. Its hit or miss. Some broke them in hard some by manual. Some did not start burning till 15K,
I broke mine in like every other bike I owned and mine burned 1/2 quart every 700 miles!

I would go for the R1 if it doesn't need too much work. I have a 2004 and I love it. But, as stated before, you gotta get used to the higher RPM band. In the lower end it is slower but once you get upwards of 7 or 8K+ RPM's, you're haulin' balls. Good luck in making a choice.

I can relate - I started out with the CBR 1000 and loved it.
Most of my friends rode Harleys ,so what did i do ? I sold the CBR for a softail thinking the same thing you did about the grass being greener on the other side,Biggest MISTAKE i ever made and regreted it for a long time.
Sold the Harley and researched the R1 - found a nice !! Silver 2004 and bought it on the spot !!
Wont make the same mistake again - Good Luck in finding your bike.

classic vid! hahah...
yeh i did my research before i bought my 09 R1, i had actually settled on the big CBR as i really loved how the 06 model rode...
i came across a thousand threads describing the exact same way i break in my bikes, and yup, you guessed it.. burner!~!...
my old man is a big honda fan {lifelong mechanic} and even he said stay the fack away... the odds are not in your favor....
its a good thing i found it uncomfortable to ride and picked up my R1... easily the best bike i've ever ridden... and solid as all fack to boot!

Sorta have the same situation but backwards. I bought a new Harley in 09 and I still have it. I went riding one day with a friend that has a Ducati 996 and I saw how much cooler it looked in the curves and how much faster he could go. I decided to pick up a street bike to keep up with him. Never rode a street bike a day in my life and I went out and bought a silver 04 R1 as well. After the first time on that bike, my riding addiction has never been the same. I am addicted to street bikes and riding. I still have the Harley but I don't ride it near as much as the Yamaha!
