Buy Chapmans piloting and learn it. You can apply the navigation and use or loran/gps coordinates for topical navigation as well.On the contrary learning topical and trying to apply it to nautical is not the same idea. Besides you may end up on the ocean so it only makes sense that if you plan to learn topical you should also use nautical anyway.
Buy a gun and take up hunting (often). Then buy a book on edible stuff in the wild. That will cover about anything you will learn in wilderness survival. I attended a couple wilderness survival events with the boy scouts troop. Most of it was common sense or stuff men naturally pick up being hunters or outdoors men, aside from the edible wild plants aspect. Any useful knots you need will be covered in the book mentioned above.
Also pick up a book (preferably something written in the 1900's) about trapping fur bearing animals.STUDY AND PRACTICE it. I say 1900's because the newer books all use set ups involving materials that most likely will not be available in a situation like you are preparing for. I use to run a trap line when I was in high school and had the time. Its the most productive and fastest way to pile up meat especially if things start getting hunted hard.
That will get you started.Also......... wouldn't hurt to buy a book about vegetable gardening and canning as well if your unfamiliar with that stuff as well

Here's the Amazon store I get shirts from.
I can't connect to the store, click the gadsden and culpepper link from this page.

A gun buyback program in San Francisco was so successful that not only did the money run out but more than 150 IOUs were issued for all the returned firearms. Linda Yee reports.

They are robbing these people blind. I wonder how many of these are from a husband or a son that doesn't know it missing yet?
