You're good, I used Mobil 1 MX4T 10-40 for years (Mobil1 15w50 car oil too) but switched over to Amsoil, a little cheaper and more conveinient (shipped to my door)
Yes you are fine with 10/40 weight oil. Yamaha was on their weird viscosity kick what seems like forever. Now they are " industry correct" with more common numbers. And most guys ran non Yamaha recommended anyway...
The manual should list a range of weights dictated by outside ambient temperature. I don't have a 2007 manual in front of me, but I'm almost certain it lists 10w-40 as a recommended weight.
Regardless of what the service manual says, there must be like a billion people using 10w-40 motor oil (motorcycle oil that is) in their bikes.
May be recommended depending on where bike lives...
