PCIII Map question..

Is there any harm in using a map designated for something different than I have.

Here is my setup K&N filter/2Bros Slip on/gutted cat/PCIII w/2Bros map. For some reason, in the lower RPM range it was a little sluggish after I gutted the cat, little too lean? I don't know? Anyway, I remapped it with the M4 slip-on/no cat/race filter map, and it seems MUCH more smooth, and responsive in the lower end, and even idles smoother, and the mid/top end seems good as well. My question is, is this ok?? I know a custom tune is best, but I have much more I want to do, like full exhaust, stacks, etc, and don't want to pay the $300+ now to have it tuned in this setup. I looked at both the maps in the PC software, and the fuel table numbers are WAY different. The bike seems to run much better with the M4 map though. Sorry for the long post, please let me know. Thanks!

maybe I am viewing it the wrong way, but it kinda looks like the M4 map is actually LEANER. Is this ok?

As long as your headers are not glowing red when you ride you should be fine for a while

haha, I don't ride that hard most of the time anyway, at least not that I know of..

Id rather sell the PCIII to my buddy, and get the PCV/Auto tune setup tbh.

The Power Commander standard maps are all pig rich for liability reasons (they don't want engines blowing up due to lean settings any more than the owner does. You can imagine how bad that would be for business).

You're fine playing with different maps as long as the settings are close (aka the mods are similar). If you're really worried, have your local dyno do a pull. They usually only cost 60-70 bucks and that will tell you if your A/F is dangerous in any areas. If anything, I'd bet you're running rich regardless of what cookie cutter map you put on there.

Good that makes me feel better! Well since it performs way better, I'm gonna rock it for a bit, until I can make it down to the Dynotune center anyway.

I really wouldn't sweat it. I ran a standard map for awhile when I had a&r baffles, a gutted cat, and the exup removed. I ran one again when I fitted a full system before I could get to the tuner. Both times I was rich and no where near dangerously lean anywhere.

I will say that the tune is worth every penny though. Throttle response gets transformed. It's better than unicorns with fake tits. Have fun!

Haha! Yeah I would like too, just don't want to have to do it more than once. A tune at the local shop is $275-350 ugh!

Better off getting a good tuner for a custom map on your pcIII.
Auto tune maps are set at 13.2 a/f across the board, what the hell good is that. So unless you know what a/f is best at each rpm/throttle setting block..... you still at square one, one rich map
