Skip ICON, they make cheap stuff, but in my experience it is also not very crashworthy.
Leather will protect you from abrasion better than textile, however both with proper armor and padding will protect from impact the same.
Leather can be gotten with good venting, and when i lived in both Phoenix and Daytona Beach, I found that i had no problems with GOOD vented (not perferated) leather.
