the finish is ruined...yamaha will warranty it...contact your dealer.

which year is your bike?

you guys should all plug the small hole in the battery tray...and check the battery from time to time.

Talking acidic swing arm

I had the same problem. I took it to the dealer. They took some digital pics to send to Yamaha. Yamaha paid for a new swing arm, battery, labor and misc parts. I would recommend you do the same thing. From what I have heard it is a very common problem.

Good luck.

Unhappy Same thing happened to me...

Well, it looks like the battery-leaking-fairy paid me a visit over the week end and while I was at work yesterday. Came out from work last night and noticed white "salt-like" stains all down the side of my swingarm as well as corrosion around some of the bolts... From reading posts here I knew exactly what it was. I just called the dealer and will go see them for a new battery one day this week. I am pretty pissed-off -- I take such good care of my bike and to have something like this happen and ruin the cosmetics of it hurts. I am sure that Yamaha won't cover it under warranty -- I bought the bike brand new in June 2001 -- so too much time has passed. I don't think I'll shell-out for a whole new swingarm, so is there anything that anyone has used to help remove/cover-up the stains?

Damn shitty stock battery stories again. I too had one piss acid all over the place, unfortunately I paid cash for my bike and didn't get the extended warrenty cause I just wanted the bike out the door and spent my other dough on after market shite.

If your bike is under warrenty then get to your dealership and have a claim submitted to Yamaha!

Thumbs down NOPE!!

Nah, the bike's not under warranty anymore so I guess I'll just have to suck it up. Any ideas on cleaning it up to make the stains less noticeable are appreciated (although I know this is a huge longshot...).

Thanks

Thanks, rbike. I've never heard of it (other than here on this forum) before but will have a look for it this week end. Living in Singapore I am not sure that I'll be able to find it (assume its a US brand), but will give it a shot anyway... Appreciate the help.
