Changing sprockets

Hey y'all, im sure this has been asked before but I want to give my bike a bit more bottom end boost. I was thinkin of changing my front sprocket down a tooth or back up 1 or 2. Any suggestions? Can I still use my stock chain if I change any?

even if you stick with stock chain (530), i recommend changing as a set.

Hi fellas,

Just upgraded to an '05 R1 and agree with the idea of first gear being too tall. Dropping a tooth on the front sprocket seems like the best/first idea.

My question has to do with the speedometer. After the change out, is a speedo healer necessary? How far off with the readout be?

Thanks for the assistance!
