Pro- Best handling
Con- No torque.
Con- Doesn't do 17,500 RPM. I had to.

From what I've read...
Pro - Bad @ss track weapon
Con - Not so bad @ss as a street bike
If I was to want a bike for tracking I would get one. If I wanted something more for riding street (and more importantly, had less experience... as it sounds is the case) I would look into an SV650.

For sport touring its hard to beat a FZ1......i would go with a pre 06 model also, they have to many complaints about the new one

Sport Tourer? You got me, dude... a friend used to have a BMW R 1200 ST, well whatever it used to be anyway. This is what it looks like now.
He seemed to like it. The only thing he ever complained about was when he was walking it backwards and knocked his shins on the cases (?- I think it was the cases, I forget how the engine sits in there).

greenhorns may be permissiable(sp), if they use their brains more than their ego

Look at the YZF600R. That's a very nice starter. It used to be Yamahas racing 600 before the R6. It has a really comfortable seat and a semi upright seating position. I loved owning that bike. Oh, and it carves the corners very well. I did two up on the Gap with my ex wife on the back and it was awesome I has a set of Metzler M1's and they were toast by the end of the day.
Plus there is awesome support for that bike at
www.yzf600r.com.
Talk to those guys and see what you think. I'm CrazyRED on that board as well.

Best bike I've ever had. I rode one of the new FZ1's for about 100 miles before realizing my old one is better in almost every way.

Perhaps you should heed the good advice, you should not be thinking about an R6 if comfort is paramount & performance is secondary.
