Clutch Issues...2001

I've read the other 'clutch problem' threads and got no joy, so I figured that I'd post my own and see if I can get some help.

This is a 2001 R1 with about 12000 miles...

When I go from neutral to 1st, it shifts REAL hard...I had it up on the stands last night just to test it after replacing the clutch housing, and i noticed that when I put it into first, the wheel would actually spin, which tells me that when I am pulling the clutch lever, the transmission is not disengaging fully.

does anyone have any insight as to what I might be able to adjust to remedy the problem?

Thanks!

Does "Hard" mean it clunks?

I have this "problem" with about 1 in 10 shifts to first from neutral. It is the nature of the gearbox (engagement of dogs with shafts turning at different speeds) and the only things you can do are check that the clutch is adjusted properly and adjust the tickover (I keep mine at about 1000rpm).

Most of the time I don't put my bike in neutral when stationary in traffic to avoid this.

Regarding the rear wheel spinning when on stand - It does, especially when cold (centrifugal forces in engine gearbox).

Someone on the Forum said a while ago that older R1 gearvboxes are very "agricultural" which I agree with.

MartinC posted some information awhile back with how to avoid the Yamaha "Clunk" when shifting into 1st. This is what I now do after reading his advice. If you place pressure on the shifter for a moment and then put it into 1st, it will go into 1st without issue. I tried it on all 4 Yamahas in the garage and it works. Try it

Also it is normal to get the tires spin you are referring to when up on stands, I even get it in Neutral

Ok guys heres whats happening when you get the clunk from N-1st.

It's called surface tension, all of your clutch plates are sticking together from the oil surface tension. While in N with the clutch in give the eng a quick rev the clutches with break free from the steels then when back to idle put it in gear and see what happens it's 100% repeatable.

Hi Guys I am having a different clutch problem, when the bike is in neutral and I disengage the clutch, I feel and hear very worrying vibration in the engine. I have never noticed this before, and wondering what this it.
Any thoughts?
