Thumbs down Need A Little Help On Jetting

Alright straight to the point i own a 2000 R1 with yoshimura Tri Oval and BMC race filter it is running lean really lean its bogging down low and of course i would expect that i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what my jetting should be i live in colorado so i am a mile higher the sea level which also throws in that magical loop. If someone knows please let me know as soon as possible i would love to get this thing flying quick. My local dealer is saying 500 for jetting it and dyno time, or 180 for dyno time if i put the jets in myself i cant believe its so much but its like im getting to the point where maybe thats better. Just to get it running at its very best.

Ps am also considering throwing in a better velocity stack setup i would imagine this will change my jetting again anyone know for sure.

I would get the Dynojet kit. Comes with 4 different main jets, the pilot jets & needles, drill bit to get the air mix screw cover off. Thought for higher altitude you just jetted a bit bigger(cause less air)...
Have installed many jet kits in the past, and everything ran great. So would think if its running fine, why give extra dollars to someone else to confirm.

They have instructions on there site, so you can see how easy the install is

Thanks alot i will have to check the site i havent been able to yet i was thinking the same thing as far as going with dynojet it just worries me with the altittude its a pain in the a$$ for tuning. I am curious tho why the drill bit i have not figured that out is it to drill out a bigger hole for the needles or for a rivit holding something on.
Thanks again first post and great to get feedback

There is a plug over the air mixture screws that you will be drilling out so that you can get to the screws.

re jetting help

Hi you dont say if the bike has only run bad since the mods...

If the bike was ok before the mods did you change the headers as well or just a slip on can...?

Y2k R1's in the uk generally ran a little on the rich side in stock trim..
The great thing about Carbs is that they tend to self adjust at altitude so don't think this will be causing your problem, and agin if the bike was ok before the mods you where still at the same altitude so this can be ruled out...

my own 2000 model R1 runs really rich at the bottom end below 4krpm and only really comes on hard from 6krpm despite many hours on the dyno.
Everything i know of the dynojet kits here in the uk would leed me to not buy another for the same model bike as an alternative i would suggest Ivans jet kit as i have heard really good feedback on them.

you could try applying duck tape to the air filter to see if your problems get better or worse before making any change to jetting obvioulsye the more tape you apply to the air filter the richer things will get and if the problem improves you know which way to go with jetting .

you will probabley need to lower your fuel level in the float bowls to improve low speed running with different pilot jets also a big help try 20 pilots (stock is 15) with 3.5 turns out on mixture screws.

also would be worth checking/replacing spark plugs prior to making any changes.
also have you removed the air induction system ???

regards

Dave
