So I've been kicking around the idea of selling my R1. It is an 03 w/ 7k miles & a hyperpro rsc damper, zero gravity db screen, full muzzy titanium exhaust, spools, sliders, earache barends, and a few misc. items that don't add much but do look pretty. I don't want to sell it necessarily, but I owe money on it & I'm not riding it anymore. When I was riding the wheels off it, I didn't mind paying for it if you know what I mean. I've moved back to my family's farm in central ks & the roads here would bore even a harley rider. I'm serious...the roads are basically layed out on a grid. Straight, flat, and boring. However, this is home & it's where I want to be so I'm stuck 130 miles from any hint of a decently curvy road. Yeah, I could just do trackdays, but I'm not cool with dropping $300 (total) just to ride my fricken bike for a day. With that in mind, I'm thinking of letting her go to someone who would enjoy it like I used to when I lived in a better area for sportbikes.

Now that I've given you a preface to the scenario, here's my questions:

1. I have everything needed to swap the rims over to the 5 spoke 04+ style including the rims with brand spankin' new pilot powers on them (120/70 & 190/50). In terms of net dollars, would I be better off selling the rims/tires/parts separately or installing them on the bike & selling it with brand new tires & the badass 5 spokes?

2. The bike has been down once but the damage was purely cosmetic. Right mid got a few scratches & the 'bump' on the right lower took it pretty hard like they always do. Would I be better off shelling out the coin to put new fairings on it or sell it as is?

Throw some thoughts out there guys....I'm interested to know what you think on this one.

depends on how much you love riding. i NEED a bike for pressure relief. but then againt my fox only has 300 hp, not 500 like yours. if you dont ride it dump it. especially considering you have no turns where you live. the most joy i get out of my old bike was pushing it hard in the turn. sometimes too hard.

also, sell your wheels. you wont see that back when you sell it.

kind of what I figured. A side scheme is that if I sell the r1, the cobra gets a whipple 140ax, 19psi, & 600+ rwhp, as well as all the goodies to support it.

terminators are called terminators for a reason. i wont even race a stock one. i would have bought one but i picked up an 02 z71 tahoe instead because i already had my 86 gt. wicked fast cars they are. if i were you i would go kenne bell. got any vids? i LOVE the sound of dsg's winding up.

hmmm....no vids....never realized that but I've never shot one of my car. I can whore up a few pics if you like. Regarding the kb vs. whipple debate, that is one which will go on - f o r e v e r - . There are soo many pages of worthless drivel crap on svtperformance.com debating the two blowers but no clear cut winner, no conclusive info. It comes down to which one you like better and although kb makes a great blower, their customer service is bottom tier. I think a new 2.6L huffer would be nice but realistically, I like the looks of the whipple better & the 140ax will push 25psi...more than I'll ever need.

you would know more than me on the sc issue. hardware is hardware. the performance comes from the overall package. mainly tune. my goal this winter is to swap my tfs top-end onto a 351 shortblock. 400 hp in a stripped fox is enough for me. sounds like to me that you are all about the terminator. embarrass some c6's for us stangers

Do it. Eleglridr (I think) just did an 05 front end on his 02. Rear wheel no spacers needed in the front you do need em. Do a search, people have done. Or you can buy aftermarket.

02-03's are such good 'street' bikes. Throaty low end for a screamer motor.

As fas as the go down, I wouldn't trip. Look at the steering stops. If they are scored substantially then maybe be concerned, if not grab it...

Not as much as you would think. 80% of the aftermarket part I bout pre-owned. My front rotors, calipers, and rearsets I paid $475 (Had to trade out my stock stuff in exchange). GP exhaust $40, Double Bubble $45. That brake kit new, $1700... I scored on most of my shit.

You get my drift... I just lurked on here hard, and other places and she's is now what she is.

Wait until you see my totally rebuilt (and I mean rebuilt) front end soon to be installed (carbon, ti-ni, oxy-ni, massaged fork, hard ano, etc...). Then we will have something to talk about...

MV are the only Italian bike co to run In Line 4, screamer motors like jap bikes. My best friend has a Tamburini, the best in the MV line.

was seriously considering a brutale until i found the price difference from the r1. one of my best friends had a 748 duc and i hated riding that bike. way too loud(termignoni), uncomfortable, and way under powered compared to my 00 r1. first gear power ups were a flick up the wrist on mine. dont get me started on the maintenance. but i still crave an itailian bike to this day. i even fall for italian girls. i go to nyc once a year and fall in love with every italian girl i come across.

that I do. I have strongly considered a wr450 but there's nobody around here who has one & I prefer to be able to check bikes out before I buy them. I lurk over on thumper talk but it's just not possible to get a good feel for a bike from reading a website regardless of the number of reviews. I wouldn't have to go too far to ride considering we own ~10K acres that starts literally right out my front door.

I do love my stang though and 600+ rwhp wouldn't suck...

sell the wheels not enough of a selling point to get your money back, and don't worry about the scratches it will cost you more to get new plastics then to sell you bike with the scratches. sell your stuff and put the money into your car. good luck hope this helps

Here's what I did:

Reverted the bike back to stock as much as possible and sold all the aftermarket parts I could. Then, sold my '03 R1 and bought an '05 YZ-250F. If most of your riding is going to be trails and open country, go with a WR450. They're great bikes, and doesn't take much in "free" or low cost mods to get them to open up with some decent power.

I've got the '05 YZ-250F which I gave to my son, I bought a new in crate '05 TT-R125LE this spring for my wife, and at the same time bought an '07 YZ-450F for myself. I'm considering picking up a WR-450 now and turning it into a street legal motard which I could run on a local track most summer weekends when not on the MX track.. But, I've got other things to take care of first financially before that could happen. Who knows, by then I'll be ready for the full return to street and get my FJR-1300.

Well, looks to me as if you already made your decision, sell the bike since you dont ride anymore and sell the wheels separate, which is what I would do. You can even offer them to whoever buys the bike at a decent pricel.

As for your Terminator, lol I say go Whipple. Ive had my Whipple on for about 5K miles and I love it, I had a polished 2.2 KB and IMO the Whipple does look better. Its nice to have 600whp at your right foot, I love cruising the freeway and catching people off guard. Ive run several bikes, Vette's (including my Z06) and a few other fast cars and its always fun to see the look on their face when you blow by them

Lol, here is a short vid of my Cobra vs my buddies Cobb Stg 2 Sti. I dont know why he listed my car as 700 hp, but it was probably 650 crank hp there. I had just broke in my new clutch and he wanted to come out and play with me, lol he thought he was gonna hang with me

and to answer you question Mike, i would sell everything separate and leave the r1 like it is, nice bike...

quik z, what is your setup on your 03?

I haven't necessarily made my decision yet, but I'm definitely leaning away from the sportbike. Not sure why because I do love the things.....it's just so damn boring on pavement around here. Ironic I say that in one breath yet talk about building a high hp mustang in the next but I rode sportbikes for hitting the twisties. Unlike my brother, my stang is more of just a streetrod. My fiance has a triple black 99 svt vert & we like to hit some car shows together with our stangs. Although I roll on the same boring roads with the stang, it doesn't seem as pointless in the car....maybe because I know I'm wasting the bike's abilities here. I don't know.

oh yeah, more vids are good! I'm interested in seeing how mine will run if I go that route.
