What ever happened to this? Has anyone ever Dyno'd one of these 'restricted' bikes to see how much is held back?

there is no need. unless its in country that restricts the motor on bikes..which in US the biks are not restricted. the tre.. is Timing Retard Eliminator... there is not timing retard in the 04-06 R1's. now suzuki does this on busa and gszr1k only in 6th gear. the TRE fools ECU that bike is in 5th gear all time which kills the gear indicator and only runs the 5th gear mapping on bike. most guys at dragstrip remove the TRE from busas.. as it slows them down in 1/4 mile. only good for top speed stuff really. but again the 04-06 R1 do not have any type of retard in timing, so no need for them. they dont need retard as bikes wont surpass the manufacturers agreed upon 186 mph limit anyway, due to HP, aero and gearing. the R1 will top out at whatever speed it will with HP, gearing and aero on bike. so if you make 250 hp then it will surpass the 186, but in stock form it wont quite get there.

yes.. but some european models, including the R1 are restricted over there. US models are not restricted in hp so it wont work for bikes in states.

Question Wtf?

OK guys so I'm trying to follow this thread, my 06 r1 hits the rev limiter in all gears but 5th. Yet in 5th, at 299kmph i am limited out at 11600rmp(approx). So being there is another oh, 2000rpm left, there has to be a simple change out. I agree that no matter what you do to a stock bike improving BHP you will still hit the same 186 magic number only you get there faster. But is there no way to get through the speed limiter(I have researched through other road racers and the answer is not the ECU from another country as they all use the same ECU, short of ordering a Racing ECU and complete harness)?

i have seen 189 on my speedo then it quits but i doubt that i am going that fast considering gearing even with all of my mods so even if you were a true 200mph i think the speedo will quit at 189

I have been thinking of going to maxton to get a true top speed mph

2005 R1 Euro spec - only 100 bhp :-(

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guy's, firstly... excellent site!!!!

I have bought a used 2005 R1 but after putting up ~100 miles on it I was unhappy with the power, especially after ~8K rpm. Further investigation shows the bike to have originated in France which suggests it is restricted explaining the lack of power. I spent a lot of time searching on this (again.. excellent!!) site and found some info (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14652) and a link to a cracking site: http://borg20014.tripod.com/service_sectionk.htm

but the link (http://www.r1team.com/acc-yzfr1-768.htm) to derestrict the 04+ appears to be broken.

Anyone know if ALMHEIM solved the problem? Or can anyone direct me to where the instructions are to derestrict the 04+ R1... need more power:-) :-)

TIA

Hi if you want to de-restrict the french re-stricted bike you have to get access to the ECU and at the wiring end of the ecu you will see a grey wire that is in a loop coming out of the ecu and back in the ecu, cut the looped wire in half it is a ground wire that restricts it then you are all done it will be un-restricted , please don't ask me how many bhp it will be then, but you will sure know the difference.

Congratulations for answering a 1 year old thread. The 07+'s are restricted by the ECU.
