possible transmission problem

hey all, new to the forum been reading for a while,

anways i have an 01 r1 and just in second gear when i throttle up it skips a bit, kind of jerks, sputters or something like that skips even, then goes, its only in second gear, anybody else had a problem like that before? or could know what the problem is

Yes, your second gear is bad. Its bitch but it happens. Take it to Yamaha or figure out how to tear the motor down and go to town!

I've had the same exact problem... Like he said it's a bad second gear. The gears come undercut from the factory. But after about 10000 2nd gear clutch up wheelies they get rounded out and skip under heavy loads.

It ended up costing about $180 for the parts. If you have a shop do it they will probably charge $1000-1500. All you have to do is remove the engine. Flip it upside down. Remove the oil pan, water/oil pump. Split the case. Remove the transmission. Replace the gear and put it all back together. Or you can get a used engine on ebay and give me your old one!

I just posted up the same problem with mine. I've put over 45,000 miles on mine. I thought it was the clutch slipping.
