03 R1...Muzzy or D&D Slip On? Buying one TODAY!
Title says it all,
Narrowed it down to those two brands, just need to know if anyone has any experience between those two brands. I used to have an 01 R6 back in the days as my first bike, and it had a DD pipe, and I was satiesfied with it, but recently a lot of people have been throwing the Muzzy name around. Any ideas?

D&D are heavy, loud, and do nothing for performance gain. Muzzy has been around the block, but just not the one you find on an R1. There are better choices. Personally, I cannot pick one of these either. I can throw the names Sato, Akrapovich, Graves, Termignoni out there. These are R&D to give performance gains, and sound great. Good luck with whatever you choose.

What made you narrow it down to Muzzy or D&D? If I HAD to choose between those two, it would be Muzzy. I've got an '02 R1 (same as your '03) and I've tried D&D, Yoshimura, Akrapovic and Graves slip-ons. Of those, D&D is the only one that I would not recommend based on build quality. I'm satisfied with Yoshi, Akra and Graves and Graves is what I'm running now.
Good luck.

it really came down to price, I visited 58cycle.com, and they were both under $300 bucks. But I'm not stuck on it. If I have to spend a 100 bucks more, I will.

I wouldn't go either d&d or muzzy. People have mentioned some of the better brands in here already..

There is always a reason for being cheaper....as Anon said, there are plenty better already mentioned. I'd say save some more cash and bide your time...in the long run you will be MUCH happier!

then do it mang. dont buy any of the 2 you have listed and have buyers regrets after receiving your exhaust. they are cheap for a reason.

I have an 04 R1 and debated on many slip-ons ( I wanted the carbon GYTR's), but due to the price I decided with going with the A and R baffle kit ( after much debating/researching) which saved me close to 1K and I was able to keep a stock look (minus painting the tubes black) and the sound was close to aftermarket (bonus: minus the empty pocket and wife giving me a bad look). Try and find an alternate to slip-ons like a baffle kit if available, if not go with what was mentioned other than D&D or Muzzy. Look on ebay or amazon for used or new to save some $$. I can say that when I had my 95 Ninja ZX6R I had a full muzzy and had plenty of compliments with no complaints, but Muzzy was made for Kawa's. Good luck!

how is the sound on the graves? I found a pretty good deal on a used graves. Is it more high pitched, or more low rumble?

If you can get the Graves, I would recommend them for build quality, plus their extensive testing and research with Yamahas. I would describe the sound as throaty and solid. With the EXUP and a slip-on I haven't noticed a huge difference in sounds of straight-through pipes but carbon fiber seems to absorb more sound than titanium - at the lower rpm the carbon fiber Akra that I had seemed a bit quieter than the Ti Graves that I have.
Another consideration is availability, fewer manufacturers are still making pipes for the '02-03, most only go back to '04.

if the used graves is in good condition I would go with that. as said above muzzy's and d+d's are cheap build and design quality (which is reflected in the price).
Also ive never heard a muzzy system on anything other than a kawi (they sound ok I guess) but ive heard quite a few d+d pipes and IMO they are VERY LOUD and VERY OBNOXIOUS (be prepared for lots of tickets and police attention). They dont sound good at all to me, but to each their own I guess
