What oil for heavy dirty abuse?

I am going to use My 03 R1 engine in a dune buggy. Its going to weigh about 1,000lbs, and be geared to go about 100MPH - 120MPH. It will be driven on dunes and dirt and be jumped alot.

So what kind of oil would be good for this engine? I know its not made for this type of abuse and wonder what the experts think I should use to keep temps down and reduce oil breakdown under abuse.

Thanks

That sounds insane... I would go with an oil ideal for running temps. I would assume the same as a running R1. Maybe slightly heavier then street juice, because youll be in desert? My 2cts...

In my opinion, your real question should be about what oil (and air) filter to use...

I'd run the Purolator PureOne Micronic filter (PL-14612).

With respect to the oil, I'd use Shell Rotella-T full Synthetic 5w-40, and change the oil and filter more often. For the first 2-3 oil chnages, I'd send a sample in for anaylsis so you could get a real good gauge of how well you're protecting the engine and how often you'll need to change the oil and filter.

On the air filter, you'll need something really good and that can be changed or cleaned often. I don't have any specific suggestions there - but maybe something that uses a high-quality filter oil-foam type?

No... quite to the contrary. Rotella-T full synthetic (not std Rotella) is actually rated very high as a non-MC specific motor oil for MC use (either #1, or #2 in rank).

Clearly, I think a MC specific oil would be nicer. I would go with the Rotella_T Synth because I could afford to change it freaquently ($20 for a gallon at your local Super Wally World).

I think the filter is a more critical selection IMNSHO...

Thanks!

Can I get this filter at any store (Purolator PureOne Micronic filter (PL-14612).)??

Also I am running a K and N filter with outwear. Seems to work good. Might switch to a foam.

This is what I hope it to look like. A road/dune cruiser.

You can buy Purolator products at any Advance Auto parts store (or Discount Auto where they still exist)...

I'm sure there are other places that sell them also - but can't recall any others specifically.
