Best Steering Damper
I have an 02 R1 it has come time to look at dampers? Any suggestions according to price and quality. I mostly ride street, only a few track days so doesn't have to be the most expensive..

surprised no one has mentioned ohlins yet! but i'm sure you already know that! I personally think it's the best for the money, or Scotts. both are very adjustable. gluck.

all adjustible dampers function the same way .i think gpr / scotts are little bit better beacause there is no exposed rod , that can get scratched or get dirty ,then cause leaks .also scotts/gpr wont bent during a crash .
i think scotts is the only damper that can be adjusted "on the fly" .

I have a Ceriani (Italian suspension manufacturer) on my 88 FZR 1000, a Scott's on my 01 R1 and an Ohlins on my 04 R1. Plus I've either ridden or worked on countless machines with other dampers in my forty years of racing/riding. I rate the Scott's Performance number 1. It is actually an Ohlins rotary damper, licensed to Scott's. Highly adjustable (three different damping circuits), easily rebuildable and pretty much crash proof. Ohlins, 2nd. This is a great damper. Highly adjustable, linear damping, very little stiction and rebuildable by any Ohlins dealer. Ceriani damper, 3rd. Highly adjustable, linear damping, just a little more stiction than the Ohlins and rebuildable by yourself. Spend the extra few bucks and go with the Scott's damper. It is easily tunable for any riding/track condition and with three damping circuits, you can tune to your preference for low speed, high speed and how much sweep control you like. Plus, you can change the oil in it yourself easily or send it into Scott's for service/rebuild. They stock all parts and provide a speedy turnaround. If you buy a new bike, all you have to purchase is a new mount for that bike. Not a new damper. They're an American company with great service and great products. No, I don't work for them or get free parts. Just like their stuff. Good luck!!!

I have a Matris M3 damper, made in Italy, if you shop around, you can find good deals on them...just as good as Ohlins as far as piston style dampers go...I've had both
