Heroic Racing SP-R Gloves: Photos & Review
Well, I just got my custom pair of Heroic Racing SP-R Gloves and wanted to post up some impressions and pics.
I didn't really see myself moving away from the Alpinestars GP-Tech gloves since I have really loved the last few sets of them. Besides a small stitching repair to a couple finger tips, they held up well to the abuses of racing for the last 4 seasons. They are very comfortable, not bulky feeling and have good protection.
Heroic's new SP-R's are a similar glove in some ways, but I really think that they have made real improvements and added features rather than trying to make a clone.
What I Like:
• Stingray crash protectors look friggin sweet and I have seen how tough they really are.
• I like the stretchy articulated fingers better than Astars precurved style.
• Similar stretchy articulation on the wrist makes them much easier to get on and off (not even broken in yet). The wrist closure strap works better.
• The palm and finger tip reinforcement material is much more grippy than Astars (who don't put any on the finger tips and I've worn through)
• While almost a perfect match to Astars Lg : Lg, the finger length is better. For me the Astars fingers were too long, perfect on these.
• Call me a dork, but I think the piping on the gauntlet looks cool.
What I didn't:
• The flap on the inside of the hand can be annoying flopping around. A couple of drops of super glue fixed that for me.
Honestly, that's my only complaint so far and I'm a big glove snob. Overall, they just ooze quality right down to the details. I'll be putting them through their paces this weekend at Palm Beach International and I'll be sure to report how they do. Enjoy the photos!

You'd have to double check, but I think they're still running an intro special at $185. If you talk to Todd and let him know I told you about the special he'll probably do it... 917-846-3671

Thanks mang!
They look comparable to the Held Phantoms. I like that the stitching on the fingers is on the outside of the finger instead of the inside where you feel it.
Look forward to the review after the weekend.

Yeah that heroic stuff is nice.
If I didnt just get an awesome deal on an RS-Tachi suit last season, I would be all over one of their custom suits. They look badass and the price is reasonable.
I just got Held gloves this season so looks like it will be a while before I get into anything of theirs. Hopefully they stay in business.

Nice looking glove - hope they hold up well for you.
They do indeed look a lot like Phantoms. May have to try a set if I ever destroy my Phantoms which I have been unable to do regardless of how hard I try :-)

To me, I don't see a big resemblance to the Phantoms, but definitely to the GP Tech's. I think that the stingray protection on the palm of these and the pre curved fingers are a big step up from the Helds.

I'm in the market for new gloves as my A* SP-3's are pretty well worn and I need something better for the track. I'll have to give these a better look once I get a little more serious.

i think it's the sting ray skin - probably a better statement would be that they look like a cross between the A*s and the Helds

Speaking of the stingray skin... the next set I get are going to have stingray knuckles instead of the TPU.

will be interesting to see how well they hold up - they certainly look nice.
i'm not a big fan of A*s gloves, they always felt really bulky to me which is why I went with the Helds. i really can't say a bad thing about the phantoms in 2 season of track/street use, and yes, they crash well too

I called him about that as I have been trying to place my order for those for along time. I think he is BS ing me on price. First he said the ones you have would be $225 and if I wanted the Knuckles in SR it would cost me an extra $30 but now he says the glove will be $350. if I want SR knuckles and not plastic.
