09 R1 Turbo Kit

I'm looking around to see if anyone has a turbo kit out for my 09 R1. I have done turbo kits on Mustangs, as well as tuning them on my dyno. I am getting my bike/atv dynojet dyno in about 3 weeks, so I would like to use this for a project bike! Any suggestions

send bike and $20k to Velocity Racing. they will fix u up with top notch system. but no ONE has off shelf bolt on stuff for this bike. mcxpress made one for 98-99 but nothing complete since then. unless ur gonna fab it all urself.

True but since we are all a big fam here you are going to get those responses. Imagine if someone asked "where can I get a gun with a barrel that points at the shooter" You are going to get people trying to tell you that you will shoot yourself. But some people dont want to listen... An R1 w/ a turbo will be slower on a track, so why. And if you say that you dont ride on a track and you just want to go fast straight, then buy a busa

There isn't one around. Just do it custom. That way you can use the components you want instead of some off the shelf kit.

Who cares why he wants to do it? The fact is, he wants to. Hell, I do too, and probably will. Just because I love turbos...

It makes no sense to turbo charge the bike, but that's not important, i for one would love to see a vid of the completed bike and would also love to see a pictorial of the work involved.

I guess it is just a bikey thing

Im sorry, I should have thought about the post before I wrote it. All points are well taken.

My reasoning for it would be the fact that I like the look/size of the R1. I rode a busa and a zx14, and didn't care for the size of it. I'm not sure if I would ever hit the track with the bike. I do take it to the dragstrip occasionally. I usually hit the normal back roads for a little bit of fun, and I realize that it will lack in the twisties with a turbo, but would be super fun in the straights

Im addicted to boost. I built a turbo 347 foxbody that runs 30+psi of boost that put down 700hp. I own an 03 cobra with a ported blower and a small shot of spray that put down 570hp, and 699tq. I would love to have a boosted bike!

I havent done much work on the bike yet to know about a custom turbo kit. I am ASSuming that it would be the same as a car kit I made, but a smaller setup.

Am I gonna need an upgraded fuel pump?
bigger injectors?
Will I be able to go wild enough with my dealer software for a custom tune through a pcv?

That was part of the reasoning for the kit.

Keep the comments and suggestions coming!!! Thanks guys

What ever its still stupid. I would have thought anyone that was real serious about this would have at least googed "R1 Turbo" While none of these people have R1 kits for 2009 Simply by calling them they should be able to at least tell you what parts you will need and were to buy them. They will also be able to tell you way more then anyone on this forum and you can rest knowing its fact information.

Good response!!! While I myself would not do it, you took our joking in stride and did not get super defensive. So good luck and make sure you post pics if you get it done. It would be crazy in a straight line

The big question is, how much are you willing to spend to turbocharge your '09?

Another question is, what kind of power are you hoping for after spending that kind of money?

And last would be, is the stock motor capable of holding those numbers reliably or are you going to have to build it up?

again, thanks for your help guys, and other opinions/feedback, I would love to hear it!

You guys are really going to talk a bunch of shit just because you are too timid or closed minded to grasp the idea? I know the sheer mention of a turbo R1 made your sore little 'ginas clam right up, but live and let live. Maybe you guys should PM Shane and tell him that he is "stupid" for turbocharging multiple bikes.

Obviously a turbo bike isn't going to win the next club race, but if you think for a second that someone (like myself) wouldn't love to ride one (even on a track), you're a fool. Just because someone likes the idea of ridiculous excessive power, doesn't make them some chrome, stretched busa lover for crying out loud. Get a clue, and get over your pitiful self.

A turbocharged '09 R1 would be bad-fuggin-ass. Period.

I have to agree. Noone told Shane he was dumb for stretching out R1's and Busas and putting Turbos AND Nitrous on them. Or even putting a twin turbo and Nitrous on one of his Busas. Lay off the guy.

He just want's a Turbo for his 09 R1. Who cares what his reasoning is. If you know where to find one or know of a company that can hook him up then just lead him the way.

I for one wouldn't wan't a Turbo on my R1 either. But I can only afford 1 R1. If I had tons of money to blow you can bet your ass I would have an R1 with a Turbo and plenty of them without turbos. It would still be fun to have one regardless and your all lying to yourselfs if you say you wouldn't do it yourself if you had tons of money.

Hey guys, Thanks for all the replies and responses. I gave in to the dark side this weekend and picked up a used busa. I plan on keeping the R1, and I can do some tasteful mods to it that would still be twistie friendly.

The busa I can turn into a turbo monster, and not feel bad about it. I think this will be the best of both worlds for the time being.

Comments??

Ever do this? I'm looking into what options I'd have for what years and I'd like to go with an 04+ with newer the better then turbo it. Looking into pricing and options.

I would be willing to turbo my 09. and not for track days or drag races. just for the simple fact to say "I did". they are not impossible to ride..if they were no one would ever turbo a sportbike.
And i also think it would sound awesome to have the exhaust note of the R1 along with the sound of a turbo spooling up. haha.
