Airbox question..
I did some searching with no hits. I'm in the process of putting an '06 R1 motor in a quad and I want to remove the airbox and run just K&N's. Is there an adapter made for this somewhere or a specific K&N for it? I know of a setup like this in a quad, but I lost the guys email. As always, thanks for any help.

If I fabbed some adapters do you thing it would run ok? I guess I could run it briefly with no filter/open airbox and figure that out.

It will almost certainly need a tune to run properly.

Where is the best place to get it retuned or mapped? Can a dealership do it(there is one 5 miles from me)?

After some researching, a Power Commander will do the trick, yes?

You lose torque doing this. Might want to have some sort of airbox.

yes with a PCIII it will work and run properly, but you'll be hurting for torque as kangaroo says.

Dang, I will have to cut out the upper frame for an air box. The throttle bodies are just 3 or 4 inches from it. I will figure out something. The motor is going into the frame today. I will see what I can come up with. Man this a sweet motor...

Does anyone have any torque loss numbers using the K&N's? Substancial loss or minimal? I'm having a heck of a time trying to get the airbox in there.

if you fit some velocity stacks, then some "sock" filters, like the UNI-Filter, it should be fine. you will loose some torque, but a 180hp motor in a quad isn't going to be lacking in the go department.
And yes, you will need a PC3 (or equiv') and it will need a custom map created for the set up as a guess.

Ok I will keep plugging away at this... Wait a minute.. 180hp.. really? I have not looked that close at the specs, I just know I wanted a big Yami motor.

well a stock 04/05 R1 will make 135-140hp at the wheel on average, so you're going to smash your brother in a drag race!
