engine temp?
Last year i rode all i could during the season in all temps of weather. I sure this has been asked before. But, Does anyone have any good tip to bring the running temp. down on an 09-11 model year R1 other than putting in an XS boost switch? Thanks for any help!

Maybe try engine ice? Other than a fan switch there isn't much you can do. Are you having a problem?

It has been proven that decatalyzing the R1 will also result in lower running temps.
Also getting rid of the belly pan and/or the side fairing during summer / city commute will work pretty nicelly!

be wary of engine ice if you do track days, nesba doesn't allow it anymore.

Unless you are exceeding the manufacturers recommendations why would you want to reduce the running temp?
If its a comfort thing then do as chop says with the cat, otherwise just leave it

well going for rides in the summer can get quite discomforting especially in the city. It doesnt run out of temp specs or anything just hot as hell to ride in the summer. the engine temp during summer is in the range of 214 to 225 degrees all day long depending on outside temp.

get rid of the cats, run engine ice... solved..
it'll still run in high temp somewhat but its not anywhere nearly as bothersome...
i actually dont even know what a HOT 09 feels like.. i dumped the cat n' stock pipes right away... will run engine ice this summer

that sounds about normal in city riding. although when out on the road at 60 or better you should see it drop a bit. on the highway at 70-75 im right at 163-165. get out of town and ride it and enjoy it

WIll the bike ever shut off if it over heats? I had it started last week (Winter )and let it run for about 15 mins, as I was walking back to check on it the engine just shuts off, the fan was on, but everything seemed normal. Just wondering if the bike has a auto off switch.
I also have engine ice in there, 1 container is enough, just be sure to flush the radiator twice to 3 times to get the old stuff out. I remember when I first got the bike brand new, it had blue stuff. Any of you notice that? 2010 R1

Not braggin' here. Recently posted up my OPP CF intake install. I did it for the looks as much as anything but the airflow had a huge effect on running and sitting air temps. If it wasn't moving my 07' got hot fast, as they all do, within tolerance, but hot all the same. This made a 15-20 degree change. Not to mention the power boost and even the sound was cool.

Very true, removing the cat will bring the engine temps down some, and will reduce the heat around your legs and butt the most.
You can install your own fan switch. It takes just a little bit of wire and a small switch Radio Shack or any auto store. I usually switch it on in traffic or city driving and it will never go above 180, even on a warm day (warm being ~80F here).

I'm not sure about the 09-present model, I doubt it, but the 08 does not. The temp light will come on and it's up to you to kill it for a cool down.

Another thing that I have noticed is the use of Amsoil oil will cool it down a little over the Yamalube.

They do shut off on there own. If you leave them idling for very long the engine will shut off!

Thank you, just wanted to see others have seen this and not just me. Is there a specific time period? I clocked mine around 15 mins. I let it run since its been sitting in the cold.

I don't know I had my running and went inside for a little while. When I came back out it was off, but fans were running.
