My New 05 R1 **PIC HEAVY**

Hey guys,

I pulled the trigger on an 05 R1. Ended up picking it up for $5,200 which I thought was a pretty fair deal. Its kind of a winter project for me since riding season is almost over in my part of the country. I recently sold my 2011 ZX10R and jumped on board this R1. Initially, I was impressed with the power as it is completely stock (except a gutted CAT) which I worked on last weekend. Below is a list of Mods & fixes I plan on working on this winter. Anyone who has experience with these bikes, I would love to hear what you think or your recommendations. Im 6'0 ft. 190 lbs, and the suspension seems a little soft for me.

Winter Mods:
- Race cans
- PCIII (if required)
- Tweaked or new rear shock
- Clear DB windscreen
- Carbon Frame sliders
- Powdercoat rearsets
- New Rear & font tire (not sure whats on the bike now but they SUCK!!)
- Steering damper (NEw or RE-valve)
- 525 Conversion -1/+1 W/ speedo healer
- Smoke tail light
- Integrated front signals (w/ resistors)

Any other ideas?

Sold the 2011 ZX10r to get out from under the 10% APR and payment. Bought the R1 W/ no lien on title. If i had it to do over again, I wouldnt have sold it, but I did. I guy the bought my ZX10R gave me premium price on the bike, otherwise I wouldnt have sold it.

When I bought my blue 06 there was a black one right next to it and I had a hard time picking between the 2.....I wish I would have got the black. Then this year when I got my new one I did the same thing....had a black and blue one setting side by side and I got the blue again. Wish I would have got the black.

Nice bike!!!! I loved my 06...

That's one thing I have never done with a bike is bleed and re-fill break lines. Is it a tough job? Don't you need special tools to do it? If anyone could post a how-to thread or something I would appreciate it. I guess I need to add that to my list of stuff to do.

My only changed would be get a full system instead of just cans, maybe -2 in the front with a 520 chain instead of 525 (or -1/+2), people always confuse the gearing with the chain size so dont listen to those trying to push you away from 520, PC3 is a must! Check the classified on here, a LOT of good parts for sale from good people... You can find an ohlins rear shock for half price more than likely.

Other small things, go with a BMC filter, and maybe some new adjustable rearsets (Mine are Gilles and I love them)

I owed $10,000 w/ 10% APR on a 2011 ZX10R. I was sick of the payment. I now own an Awsome liter bike that I love with 0% APR and no payments. Hope that clears it up. Sometimes not having debts and having a responsible budget is worth more than having the best stuff.

If I can be honest, someone with my skill level (probably 95% of people riding street) this bike holds no disadvantages under the 2011 ZX10. Actually, in have found several aspects of my 05 R1 that I like better than my 2011 ZX10 W/ flashes ECU and Yoshi exhaust. I can only imagine the untapped beast this MFer has wrapped up in it after riding it stock.
