My 2001 rebuild, a step at a time.
So about two years ago, my bike was stolen... Long story short it was found at a judges house and I don't get restitution for the $4000+ in damage his son did to my bike.
My current plan is to rebuild, one thing at a time, until I have an R1 again.
I will post pics of my progress as I make it. I'm really strapped for cash so bear with me guys!

well you have a good base to work with, that could be done with minimal money and alot of patience finding good parts deals. you could even go the street fighter route!

The judge story... A sore spot for sure.
I don't live in the best neighbourhood to be clear...
This started two years ago in April. I was leaving my house to go to work and as I was pulling out of my dirt driveway I noticed bike tracks... The problem was I hadn't ridden in a month. I stop, look back at where the bike was locked up, and see nothing... MUTHA F******CKERS!!!!!!
Cops are called, its all reported, I go to work. Angry. Grr...
Two weeks later I get a call, not from the worthless ass pigs we have around here, but from my buddy. He saw my bike in the county car slammer.
After I picked up my bike and the police report I notice there are no details on how they found the bike, just an address and no names. I asked the detective how the bike was found and he said an officer was driving by and saw it, ran the VIN, and sure enough...
I drove by the address on the report and it was the judges house. Less than seven blocks from my house. I pestered the detective on the case for three weeks after this, he never had answers, so I went to the DA who of course wouldn't prosecute. The detective actually went as far as threatening to arrest me if I kept calling him and asking if he had done his job yet.
The funny thing is that the first story was the one above. The second story of how it was found was that it was in an open lot, the judges son pushed it home and started to work on it till it was found.
The THIRD story was that he found it and called the cops to come get it.
After two years and three different stories from the police I don't know what to do. I figure I'll rebuild and chase restitution later.

That's funny... No, I live in Santa Clara, New Mexico. Kind of a run down old town... The judge has a real nice house, big ass RV, couple Hardleys, lifted Duramax. Typical crooked official for this area.
Maybe I should take a pic of his house so you guys can see....
