Yes you should, but I would get a Bazzaz Zfi unit as fuelmap will probably be closer to what you need. Bazzaz unit has 2 fuelmaps already installed, with the connection plug for map selection switch in the harness near the rear of bike it is in slipon map and with plug removed its on the stock exhaust map. The cost of a fuel controller will go a long way for you and your'e bikes enjoyment factor as well keeping it from running too lean and possibly damaging it. Get the Flashtune ecu interface as well to unlock hidden power already in your bike for $350,or they can reflash your ecu for $150

NO. You don't need power commander for a slip on.

Anytime you do something which increases air flow into the motor or reduces back pressure (i.e. slip-ons, full exhaust, etc.) then yes, you should install a power commander.

The power commander over rides the OEM ECU's fuel curve, avoiding possible lean conditions (i.e. more air going into the motor = lean, if you don't bump up the OEM fuel map). The power commander allows you to do this.

You don't *have to* run a Power Commander, but you risk running the motor on the overly lean side, which - over a prolonged period of time - could result in engine damage (burned valved, hot running, piston melting, etc.). With that said, it's difficult to say how lean a condition you'd end up with from just slip-ons. Also, the 2009 might have an O2 sensor that provides a feed back loop to the ECU (I don't know).

Most people do install a Power Commander when doing stuff like changing the stock exhaust to something that flows more freely and/or when adding a K&N type filter, etc. Having a tuned fuel map avoids running lean and matches the fuel curve to the flow characteristic of the exhaust you have. This helps you extract the most power from your bike and, as mentioned, helps to avoid the motor running on the lean side.

It's your bike; it's your call - as far as whether you install a Power Commander. I definitely would do it for a full exhaust (i.e. no cat, etc.). It's probably also not a bad idea for slip-ons; at least you have it and can dump the proper map into the Power Commander.
