Can't wait to sup-up my bike
So, I bought my 2008 R-1 from my buddy who didn't want to pay for it any more. I payed what he had left on it. I got it for what I consider to be a good price.
ANYWAYS, I helped him put the Baffle kit on it (sounds pretty mean). I just put Hotboddies flush mount turn signals on, fender eliminator with integrated tail light. Plus, I'm receiving my Power commander and ignition control module tomorrow. This weekend, I'm going to gut the Cat, and install the PC3 and Ignition controller. Hopefully, next weekend, I should take it to the track.
I can't wait. Not only is the R-1 the best looking bike on the market (In my opinion). But, it's one of the best to ride, too.
Wish me luck, guys. I've never installed a power commander or the ignition controller. This is my 3rd R1 (had a 03, and a 05). So, I'm hoping it's not too bad...

Thans, ZWilks. I think it's fitting that I have a black and gold bike, living in New Orleans...

I'm military, so I deployed a lot. Plus, I've been riding. And, I like to look and read. I just like to see what people have to say sometimes. But, recently, I've gotten into posting (and replying)..

Should forget the PCIII and ignition module and get your ECU flashed instead. OhioYJ over on R6 forum will do it for free for ya. The PCIII is really limited in the area it can tune due to the stock throttle restrictions on the bike!

Thanks for the kind words, guys.
So, is it better for me to re-flash my ECU? Even better then the PC3 and ignition? If so, I can't believe I just spent 300+ bucks.
Why is it better to re-flash a stock ECU then to get a PC3. I had a 05, and the PC3 really woke it up. What's different about the 08?

Power commander just tricks your ecu into thinking it needs more or less fuel by using a signal wire to trick the ecu. Also our year bikes are very restrictive with the electronic everything. For instance, the throttle blades on our bikes do not open 100% until 7500 rpms, so when u blast the throttle open, the blades slowly open until that point. With flash tune you can rewrite the throttle map to be more aggressive. With FlashTune you can also change you fuel and ignition tables for each cylinder and gear. Pc3 is a thing of the past. IMHO send it back. Get FlashTune for same price and u will be much happier. Then go buy a Pcv with auto tune to help you write a fuel table based on your environment and driving style to keep a perfect air/fuel ratio. Like I said, I'm in destin if u want pm me and ill reflash your ecu just cover shipping both ways. Also watch the video of what all can be done with flash tune
Www.flash-tune.com
You can disable your Exup motor in your exhaust for better flow. Change the opening time of your velocity stacks, customize your idle, put less engine braking in so u don't nose dove into the corners. I had a pc3 and my bike was still a turd. If u send me your ecu and get it back and aren't 100% satisfied ill cover shipping back and reflash it to stock.

Also play with the FlashTune software before you buy the interface

Who's ever going to read that thing?!? lol.
I think the flash-tune FAQ is a pretty condensed version: http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340660
And donphantasmo, the ECU flash can do EVERYTHING the PC3/Ignition module can plus WAY WAY more!
You wouldn't believe how restricted the bike is from the factory, the PC3/Ignition module can't fix that, but a flash can!

OK. So flashtune seems like the way to go.
So, can I get a power commander and a flash-tune?
Or should I just flash tune it alone, and sell the power commander and ignition controller?

flashtune and then pcv and auto tune to perfect your fuel map

Thanks for the info graphitegripper, I aslo purchased an 08 R1 and it came with pc3 and two brother slip on. So, reflashing does not work with pc3?

It does but why write a custom fuel map to your ecu to trick the ecu into doing something else. Flash tune encorporates the pc3/Pcv djm maps to blend the lean and rich spots into the flash tune fuel maps to account for mods you've done
