GoPro Hero 3 Feedback Needed
Ok, so as most of you probably already know, there is a ALL NEW GoPro HERO 3 coming out soon.
Faster, Smaller, Lighter, Better Quality, Built In Wi-Fi..etc..etc.
This Post is a General Discussion on what your opinion on the Two Models coming out of HERO 3.
They have the SILVER SERIES, which is is basically an updated HD Hero 2 camera with WiFi built in, the thinner size and and improved housing.
1080p/30fps, 960p/48fps, 720p/60fps
11MP photos
Up to 10 shots per second in photo burst mode
And then for $100 MORE.. They have a BLACK SERIES, Which includes the WiFi Remote ($80 value) and a better Camera
4K/15, 2.7K/30, 1440p/48fps, 1080p/60fps, 960p/100fps, 720p/120fps
12MP photos
New photo burst modes with up to 30 shots per second
There are hundreds of way to use and mount a GoPro. But, the most common, is Mount on your Bike, or Mount on your Helmet.
In these situations, it's a TOTAL PITA to have to (POWER ON, Make sure it's on, START. Recording, STOP Recording, POWER OFF, Switch to Camera Mode, Take some Rapid Shots, Switch Back to Video, Change Video Settings...etc..etc..)
That's where the WiFi Remote comes in. You strap it to your wrist like a Watch, and it has a MATCHING LCD Screen to exactly what your Camera is doing. Plus, a Big ON / OFF and Record Button.
So what's your opinion on what GoPro is doing ?
Is it worth spending $100 MORE for the Better Camera and the WiFi Remote ?
or would you just use your iPhone, or Droid device as a remote instead . and save the $100.?
Once again, just a General Discussion on these models. This isn't to debate GoPro vs. something else, or what they sell for.... etc. JUST Discussion on GoPro's Decision to have these two models.

Ill give you some feedback,
Gopro makes a HD2 proclaims back in February that it has a wifi bac-pac coming soon. Soon turns into June /July which I went and purchased it too make set up on the bike easier while recording. The other main reason is the app so I could just use my phone to set things instead of the remote. App finally comes out in oct and what do you know its only for ios with android coming soon. Which is a big FU since Andriod is roughly 68% of the smartphone market and likely a larger part of the gopro users base.
Then they introduce the HD3 with wifi embedded. They string customers along for months and then still dont deliver. I was still a gopro fan until recently when they sheot on consumers with the wifi/app debacle. They did this only to sell a new product while sticking it to the ones who bought a product that was supposed to have the same functionality and hasnt come close.
Ill be purchasing other manufacturers products no matter how good gopro gets.

If weather conditions for said activity deem applicable for smartphone usage, then yes, I would rather use my iphone to control the camera. Plus from what I understand, the app allows you to see what the camera sees right?
Now if I was snowboarding, or water skiing, or in rainy conditions, I don't think I'd want to have my i-phone out in the elements. (The WiFi remote is Wearable and waterproof to 10’/3m)
People with weatherproof cases for their smartphones will probably say otherwise>>>Just my thoughts here>>

I personally love GoPro. Not only do I like the products, but I am a fan of their customer service. Always have been helpful to me.
As for the Hero3, the specs look impressive. Increased wind-noise reduction, increased shutter speed for pictures, and twice the video FPS.
And Benocehcap I believe the GoPro's have the built-in WiFi for other GoPro Accessories. (I've never used the WiFi)

Personally i love my hero2, but the features on the hero3 really make me want the 3! i like that idea of a remote to activate the device, that's a huge selling point especially for riders imo.

i'm waiting for someone to break open their gopro and do just like what was posted in the garage opener thread.
solder some wire to the pins on the power button install a button on your clipon or under the tail for the rearview shots
push button on/off without needing a $100 remote but then again i have never opened up a gopro...so it may not be as simple as soldering some wires to some contacts

See if you can send it back and pay the difference for the three. They might do it.

$400 isn't too bad for the package. Only thing I don't like is that the battery is slightly smaller than on the Hero2. Wish they would upgrade that instead of making a much bigger battery.

November 14th. You can pre-order it now, but they only offer the silver series, white series, black series, and black series surf edition. I'm going to call gopro tomorrow and see when/if they are coming out with the motorsports edition to see if it's worth waiting for.

The price of the regular black series and of the surf edition black series are the same. So I'm assuming the motorsports edition would match that.

They are pretty cool compared to the 2's. The remote stuff is pretty cool. Don't forget you need a viewing screen to make use of non riding stuff. In a real world just depends on what you are editing it for.. youtube is going to decompress it TONS and if you don't want to have 20 back up hard drives the big files are kinda pointless..
I'm pretty sure we'll have footage coming off the Daytona tire tests this week..

I have 3 GoPro's, sold one and have the other 2 for sale. There is other new product out there that is good. I just filmed a bunch of in water surf content with a Contour and was impressed

Just got off the phone with GoPro rep. She said they have no knowledge of them coming out with a Motorsports Edition for the Black Series. But when I said "Well I would assume they would since they did for the Hero2", her response was, "I have no information on that, but I would think so as well". But all the mounts are interchangeable, just not the housing. So if you already have the motorsports mounts, you're set.
I just kinda want my box to say "Motorsports Edition" so I can feel special...
