Swapping the Gas Tank this Weekend - Got Any Tips?
Hey all
i've been slowly putting on my auctmarts fairings and its coming along pretty nicely. i'm taking the bike for a ride tomorrow morning but when i get back, i want to finally swap the gas tank to the black one i bought off someone on here.
anyone have any tips for getting this done as this will be my first time...? i need to swap the fuel pump as well...is that difficult? do i need any unusual tools that i might not already have? how do i best drain the tank? i plan to ride the bike until the light comes on so there wont be as much gas in there.
thanks guys

pretty easy job. take off the side panels, front airbox screw, rear pin, disconnect lines and lift off tank. you will have to use some of the old hardware to mount the new airbox cover. i personally would like to have a new gasket on the fuel pump mount but dont know if its mandatory. one thing, make sure you dont kink the fuel line.

not sure on the 06...but my 09 i've swapped tanks many times...swapped fuel pump over at the same time. never needed to install a gasket. never even seen one honestly
when you try to remove the pump it will probably catch on the side. theres a small plastic piece in there you have to slide foward...or back. for it to pop off. then you can remove the pump. once i got the pump out i put that piece back on...found the 2 pieces that were catching the side and cut em off. no need for them.

Will do man. I'll let you know.
Just a little update....
I'm finalizing the placement of thr side fairings...and they fit like absolute shit around the sides of the nose fairing. I snapped the foremost little tab on the tip of the fairing on one side. But it doesn't matter bc both sides fit like ass regardless. It's like the length of te side fairing that connects to the sides of the nose is too long.
Any tips on how I can tighten the fit around the nose fairing?

Mine were kinda a bitch also, took some time and ALOT of patience. If i remember right the trick was getting the tab under the headlights to catch and fully connect.
Dealing with the 06 fairings make me really miss my 09, that thing was so simple

So I ****ed with those side fairings along the nose fairing and it still looks like shit. I have a good amount of patience bc I'm a perfectionist. But when something just ain't happening, it ain't happening. Every other piece on the bike fit fine except these side pieces. It's 3am and I messed with it since 1130. For the hassle and pain in the ass to fit these things together, I DO NOT think auctmarts fairings are worth it. I'm dreading when I have to do maintenance, change oil, coolant etc bc I'll have to go through this shit all over again.
