AR10/AR15 builders and Owners
Hey guys, so I'm in the process of shopping for an AR15 or AR10... I'm not 100% sure what way I want to go yet. I understand the differences, and the pro and cons of each... still confused as hell to what I want. I personally like YHM and Black Rain... So, what do you guys think, what do you own, and what brand? If you built, what lower and upper did you go with?

What is your intended purpose for the rifle?
What's your budget?
How much weight can you handle for the intended purpose?
What caliber do you like?
Do you prefer optics or sights?
Are you a mall ninja?

lmao...
3000 for the rifle with furniture, and pmags
personally, I don't something that will rival a 50 cal. riffle, but weight isn't a MAJOR concern of mine... some will say that's ignorant, but right now it's not.
I personally like what the 7.62 x 51 can do, but still really considering the 5.56
I'll end up dropping some cash on a trijicon X4, and maybe a red dot for the top
Yes, if i'm not on my bike, you can find me in the ferns, at the local mall.

Is this a honest answer, or troll? You can help with input on what you've shot, you own, what you like, what you dont, what brand you like, sights, furniture, mags...
I guess I should make it a little easier by saying, any useful input will help.

What good does answering such a wide open set of questions do? You don't know what you want to do and us telling you what brands we have bought and what options we got doesn't provide you anything to figure it out with.

I'd love to help, and I've built AR's for forum members with good results. I asked you the same questions I ask my customers. If my help's not wanted, I won't.

Look at the costs which will include ammo, will you be able to stack 5.56 vs .308 without busting your budget?

See this is why I'm tempted to get an AR10. The ballistics of the round, and the pure kick ass punch it has. Its a big investment, and I'm just not sure if the 5.56 or .223 is the better way to go. I like that fact that the ammo for the AR15 is more readily available though :\

Maybe there're brands i'm missing... maybe a certain brand has a down fall that i don't know about...I can tell you what doesn't help, but i'm sure you already know what i'd say.

Ar-10. There are lots of Ar-15's out there. Not a lot of Ar-10's. Plus what is cover against a .223 is only concealment against a .308

Ok, then what do you want to do with the rifle? Range/ home protection? brush rifle? Truck gun? Long distance rifle matches? 3 gun competition? steel challenge? PDW?
This will let me know what is needed.

LWRC, LMT, Noveske, Daniel Defense, Bushmaster, DPMS, Bravo Company USA, LaRue, Legion There's tons of manufacturers out there. What is the main purpose for this rifle?

I guess there're really the only well known brand that i know of. I have heard of bushmaster, but I also hear they're quality inst the greatest, thought I don't know this to be 100% true.
To me, I like the tactical look, more than the long barrel sleek rifle.

Rifle will be used for home defense, prep, and range shooting. like I said, I'd like to get a trijicon X4 at some point. I'd like something that's capable of reaching out a little bit and touching, but compact enough to take around corners... might be give and take there... i dont know.

Do you know what makes the difference between a quality AR-15 and a mediocre AR-15? I'm serious, how are you going to make a true informed decision on any of this if you just want to see what is popular among other people vs what your objectives are? Hell, half of us could be psychos that don't know jack about AR-15's, but slept at a Holiday Inn last night.
