Oil filter damage
Hey guys, last night I changed my oil, put in a new filter just doing maintenance. First time I had to struggle so much to remove a filter in my life.
By the time I was done with the filter it it was in bad shape and mostly crushed. looked more like a square....
Is there any danger that metal flakes or debris got released from the inside of the filter into the system ?

Nah you're fine. Had the same problem with the first oil change on my 09.

No...that's perfectly normal. I have a sharpened screwdriver I used for years...just punch it through and twist it off! Now I use K&N filters, which have a 17mm nut on the end of them. You'll never have that trouble again.

spend 5 bucks on that little filter cap wrench thingy. fits over the top of the filter and uses 3/4 ratchet. helps to snug up new filter with it too.

Did metal pieces break off? Usually aluminum peels off when punctured.
